I have heard that it is because males tend to focus on the actual object, Females tend to focus on how the object looks with the environment around it. I guess that is why more females are into fashion. But it doens't make you less manly to do it the other way, it just means you grew up watching your parents do it that way, or your brain chemistry is different.

My theory.

When a guy looks at his nails it's to see if there's any crud under the nails, so it HAS to be palms in.

Where as when a woman looks at them (most often) it's to see how they look.

Yeah, it's generally regarded as a bit homosexual to look at your nails palm away. But frankly, I find having sex with other men to be more homosexual than that, i mean, jeez who really cares how you look at your nails? If you're gay, you want men, if not, you don't, regardless of how you look at your nails.
