Because hipsters aren't really a homogenous movement like hippies and grunge. Sure there are some themes like tight clothes, PBR, trucker hats, etc., but hipster is applied to just about any young person that is acting in any way out of the ordinary.
 
I'm 90% certain the hipster movement was started by aliens from another galaxy who have an exaggerated interpretation of earth culture(s).

But that doesn't make sense, because these so called hipsters seem to be wearing popular fashions and the things they use aren't out of the ordinary at all. I may not care for what they wear or use, but I don't see them as all that rare. Maybe at one point that's what it meant, but today it's really just a term used by someone that hates what someone else is doing/wearing/eating/using.

Not true. Intent matters. Hipsters do the stupid things they do ironically, where other people do them genuinely.
 
I think I hate hipsters the most out of humanity. They'd make a great stress reliever though. You just have one like tied up in the closet, and after a long day of work, you come home, open the closet door, and beat the fuck out of the hipster.
 
I closed out after seeing the pic with the girl standing over a used tampon on the ground in a pool of blood.
 
Hipster has been around for a while and it's changed over time. There really isn't a clear definition, although a lot of people seem to only associate it with the faux ironic stupid people like from that Tumblr link. At this point though that's basically reached pop culture level so I don't even think it even qualifies as hipster now.

It's the whole post-hipster phenomenon. It's only cool to them if it's not mainstream, and if enough people are doing it then it's mainstream. So basically hipster is hipster until it reaches critical mass and dies, then it becomes something else.

I hope this is true. I'll be stopping by a hipster cafe tomorrow to buy tickets to an upcoming concert and I think my presence might be single-handedly responsible for its loss of hip.
