Definitely a scam, look at the feedback score. It is mostly by people that have just created an eBay account which means he's creating fake accounts and posting fake feedback to his seller account to boost the rating. If he was selling USB keys that were legit but stolen, there would be no need for him to do that.

Plus, as of right now it shows he has sold 870 of these yet he only has 12 feedback ratings, clearly he is shipping them extremely slow so he can sell as many as possible before being taken off eBay.

Christ - 800+ sold... if even half of the people send the cash that's 10k. Seems like a good racket.

Is it me, or is it just coincidence that all the guys who have (0) or (1) left feedback for him all made accounts on May 7th or May 8th of 2009 and all live in Taiwan?

there is buyer beware, but the level of fakery is getting absurd on ebay, chinese knockoff of things like headphones are just ridiculous. there should be consumer protections so you don't have to go around scrutinizing every last mold line on whatever you buy.

That's why you go to a brick and mortar store when you want to be assured of quality. Anyone going to ebay should know by now that buyer beware is part and parcel of the whole site. Just about everyone shopping on ebay knows the risks but they shop anyway. It's part of the excitement of shopping at any auction, discount or thrift store.

I wonder if this USA seller is selling fake ones as well:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220568477461&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I sent an e-mail to the seller above asking them where they could buy so many Kingston 128GB USB keys and sell them under $100 and the person responded:

Hello,

Thank you for your question. Here is what I know about these Kingston DT-200, as the current owner of the one of them:

These don't have an engraved model number in the metal part of the USB interface. However, they have been tested using an advance software utility called H2testw 1.4 directly from heise.de server. This is a German software that test the true capacities of Flash Drives (you may google them). After running the test, it accurately indicates that the total storage capacity is 131055 MB or 127.9834 GB. There are needed system files that make up the rest of the space.

They are formatted with FAT32 and can be formatted to NTSF for larger single file capacity if so desire.

I have saving as many files as I can and have without any issues so far.

**PLEASE NOTE: Due to the electronic nature of these products I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY RETURNS.

You DO have the option and are more than welcome and recommended to purchase directly from Kignston website, They retail at $547. However they are currently and indefinitely out of stock due to new product development.

Kind Regards.

most of the usb flash drives scammers are overseas, don't accept returns and even there feedback's look fictitious. i have contacted over a dozen over these sellers last month asking if the product was genuine and under warranty, the ones who did respond only said "the item is new and untested".

sucker is born every day someone once said, there are even suckers on slickdeals whom seem to buy anything that is cheap even though its garbage.

that's why i frequent this forum more than others, the user base is not brain dead.

My coworker was in China and saw, on sale, 500GB flash drives for some $5. Plug 'em in and they show up as 500GB. However, try to copy anything onto one and you quickly find out it only holds 20MB...

Flippin' Chinese. At work we looked a Chinese-made wireless backup camera for vehicles since we were doing something similar and wondered how theirs worked. It was transmitting over 20dB above the legal radio power limit! We tried to contact the FCC but they blew us off.

Key points learned from the Chinese: if you can get away with it and make some money then do it. It's a very crappy way to live - very dishonest.
