Longer Boot times with GTX 980

I'm having an issue with my new GTX 980, whenever I start my PC it takes a long while to get past the BIOS screen, I'm also certain that I can't access my BIOS, but this only happens whenever I plug in my 980. I'm not sure what's going on with this, I saw some suggestions about updating my BIOS, but after seeing all the bad things that can happen by doing that wrong, I'm not so sure I want to update it.

This is only a minor annoyance, however when I switched cases, Windows wouldn't even start, I had to remove the card, reset the CMOS, then access the BIOS and specify my boot device to get it functioning.

I don't know if anyone knows what I could do to get rid of this, not sure if it is Nvidia's drivers, or what, but my old GPU didn't have this issue. Any help is appreciated.

My Specs:
Intel i5 3570K
mobo GA-Z77x-UD3H
GPU GTX 980

I'd start with a bios update to see if it solves the issue. Your board looks to have dual bios so odds are you'd be fine.

Long time to get past bios literally? Or windows startup?

My old GPU was 660Ti, and before I installed my new one, I removed all of its old drivers. It takes a long time for it to get past the BIOS screen, as in the menu where you can access, the BIOS itself, and Q-Flash and all that stuff.

My BIOS version is old though, its like version 11 and when I checked the last time it was at version 20. I never switched because nothing like this ever happened, and I don't want to screw up with that.

Make sure that you do not screw up identifying your motherboard's revision!

Well, your're gonna have to take the risk and update to the latest stable bios, otherwise there is not much else to do regarding your problem...

Usually when a MB lags where your saying it's because it's having a WTF moment trying to configure itself. Restating memory sticks and gpu might possibly help.

I'd do the bios update and see if it helps. The version after F11 does state GPU compatibility although I doubt it had GTX 9xx in mind.

Maybe taking pci-e off auto and set to gen 3 would help?

I'd try the bios update. Dell had to update the bios on some models of their pc's to enable users gtx980 and 970's to even work, so there is definitely a precedent of 980 and bios problems.
