Longboard help

I am a fan of getting a cheap longboard and putting some better bearings in it. It's cheap so you won't care if it gets stolen or beat up. Plus you can find out if you like using it to get to class without spending too much cash. If you do like it you can get a better board and have one to get a friend started.

I'd recommend a short board to anyone looking to get some exercise. They take a lot more work to keep moving, and you can do tricks too

Get a Sector 9, I have always had good luck with them. I would get a board around the 38" mark or shorter. Shorter boards are more maneuverable. I don't think I have ever seen one for sale used you might try some local skate shops but most people just drive them into the ground. Take the bearings out every few weeks and clean / lubricate them and the thing will last you a long time.

there's one that i can get that's a 30" mini-longboard. I'm thinking that it'd be easier to carry around than a hulking 42"+ board. how's the cruising on a shortboard though?
