Sounds like a standard day for me at my job lmao. I've saw something very similar with someone who bought a case with a giant skull(they put it together and couldn't get it to work) on the front and flashing eyes I couldnt stop laughing.

Different short story
Customer has kazaa on their computer (nonlite/diet version etc) so I remove craploads of spyware as well as use kazaabegone on the machine to completely rid it of that. Tell them not to install kazaa back on the computer, they comes back with a computer spamming them with ads again, and a fresh new kazaa install.

PC Technicians job requires large ammounts of pain killers for headaches from people who don't want to pay because they think computer service is supposed to be free, or do the opisite of what you told them and then get mad and want you to redo your work.

I couldn't stand it. For the pay and the lack of respect, it wasn't worth it.

Wow, all too true. I'm working on my A+ and CCNA, and still have people ask if the capacitors are batteries. I remember one lady whom I worked for, handed me her comp, told me fix it, and got peaved sience she payed 15+hrs for xp and a barebones system, sans psu, case and optical bay and her modem died. Sure was a fun fathers day present. Anywho, op, I feel your pain, At our school, We must still put do not plug in telephone cords to this apparatus, and yet, some moron plugs it in the cisco switch.

You know what you should do?

Just to eliminate HALF of your problems, you should fix the guy's computer but JB WELD his case shut so he doesn't fux0r'd his hardware again. Then you should set up windows with only you as the Admin, giving him a regular user account - unable to change it.

Finally, send him to this thread. :p

(though it might not be... how do you say, ethical.... )

my personal favorites are those that want to sound smart by calling a computer by any random piece of hardware inside. for example. my "modem won't turn on", "the cd-roms on my hard drive aren't working," "the memory just has a blank screen." and even when you correct them they still insist on calling it what they were calling it. "miss its actually just called a computer, the modem is just a part inside that lets you use your dial up internet". "excuse me i know what i'm taking about, i keep pressing the eject button on my modem and its not doing anything"

Blame the B&M sales reps who when they bought the machine from originally - overflooding them with specs and flagarant pointing to ads and products where the customer's feeble mind somehow gets terms and words jumbled up in their shake-n-bake head to where they think they are edjumacated to a golden color of dum dum.

Optional ingredients: sprinkle with so called words and advice from other friends and coworkers into "computer genius" shake-n-bake head.

;)

the best thing to do is to sit down and calmy remind yourself it's people like him that keep you employed

what i don't get are people that think they know exactly whats wrong yet they still come to us to fix it

or if you have a dick customer again-

"there are 2 people that want to fix your problem, one of them is losing interest real quick..."

That's so annoying. Happens on AT a lot too, but nothing like the OP posted, lol. I pity you OP. Don't you also hate people who don't tell you what they are trying to do in the grand scheme of things and just ask questions about how to fix the worst possible solution?

I ran the IT shop for an embassy until I retired in 2004. The new Ambo had married a woman from the former Soviet Union. Most former Soviet babes are knockouts. He got the only ugly one. On top of that, she was demanding. Her hubby had brought a personal PC to the residence. We weren't allowed by regulation to do anything with it. The trucks came, the packers unpacked, the hubby left on an official TDY. Mrs. Ambo called my unclass system manager and insisted that he send someone over to the residence to install "The Ambassadors" computer. He called me and ask what to do. I told him to tell her diplomatically to piss off or I would call her and do so. He was a younger guy and had aspirations to a career (and something of an ass kisser) so he sent a couple of the local IT staff to install the PC. After that, every time anything happened to the Ambo's personel computer, the madam would call my guy. Once he had worked on the PC, he was obligated to continue. It broke a lot, espically while the Ambo was out of town. One day, my manager called me to tell me that he had gotten the ten millionth call from the regal bith and had sent the guys to work on the PC. He said with glee in his voice that he had once again recieved the call from on high and was forced to take two guys off an important project to go to the residence to fix the same PC. This time, they guys called from the residence to report that the tide had turned. In troubleshooting the PC, they found the whole Kaaza mess on the system. That meant that the kids were using the Ambo's PC to download MP3's while he was away! This was really funny because the Ambo was Mr. IPR and was constantly fighting with the local government to get them to tighten up on music piracy in the local markets and shops. Since the Ambo was such a hawk on RIAA rights, it was pretty obvious that he would be more than pissed when and IF we reported the problems the guys had found on his PC to him when he returned from DC! I advised my manager to rush out to the residence and to advise Mrs. Ambo of what the staff had discovered and to grab the proof. I also told him to report to her that we were regulation bound to advise the the Ambo of our findings (notice how this has become mine now that it is working out well, while I actually did none of the work!). When he told her what had to be done, she actually begged him to keep quite about the findings. He told her that he really shouldn't so that, and shouldn't have started working on the personally owned PC in the first place. He also mentioned a local firm that would be very glad to maintain the Ambo's personal PC for a price and that was the legal path to take. I am happy to report that our calls from the Ambo's residence to fix his PC after his teenagers screwed it up ceased on that day!

Normal computer customers are a britch, those that think they are royalty are so much worse!

He dropped off the computer ten minutes later and then left. Booted just fine...

Wow... what made the kids go wrong in your area?

You should really JB Weld his case, BIOS lock him out, and Win XP admin over him. ;)

I may aswell, the damn case has almost no place for air to come in. While sitting in BIOS the cpu (3200+) is sitting at 57C and the case is at 42C. Not that bad, but once you add in that 7800GT and put the CPU under any load it will heat up REALLY fast.

seriously screw what ever the owner or boss says

charge him the full price if you do any work from now on,

i personally would have told him that you were closed and too bad

(why does he need a computer if he's going on a ski trip?)

computer technician jobs in retail are perfect examples of how people will take complete advantage of you if you do ANYTHING nice, or give them any kind of break

No wonder he has problems. Probably blamed the PSU due to a game crash or something when it most likely due to temperature related issues.

when he comes to pick it up bring it to him and say

"i didn't fix anything, i figured we would wait till more issues arive (which they will) and we can trouble shoot them in one big step :D"
