I was driving down Midlothian tpk, and I noticed a new construction site next to LJS. The new building have the same outline as a Captain D's, even the parking lot looks the same. Why would they build another seafood place next to LJS?

I like LJS's fried fish, but I also like Captain D's fried oysters.

I haven't had Captain D's in almost 10 years since they closed up shop in TX. Last time I had LJS though (about 2 months ago) - it was just a grease basket, like the quality of their food has gone downhill bigtime.

At Captain D's everything takes like fish, even the fries. This is probably because they cook it all in the same grease.

If I wanted fish sticks, I'd go to the grocery store and get some. :|

Well I've never been to Long John Silver but Captain D's isn't too bad. They have a platter w/ 24 shrimp and fries for $3.99 or was it $2.99. I don't remember for sure but everything they serve is crispy so it's actually pretty good.

I avoid eating at both places but if I had to choose I'd take LJS. I just can't bring myself to eat a place nicknamed (around here anyway) "Captain Disease".

Arbys is good, Roy Rogers is crap. :p

I like both....although Arby's always makes me feel sick. But you get those sandwiches and slather them with horsey sauce YUM.

There are no more Roy's/Hardee's around PA/NJ...

Yep, I'll be down in NO Friday for Jazzfest. First stop, either Uglesich's or Guy's for a half shrimp half oyster poboy. :D

Seriously... LJS fish is yummy but you will drop dead if you eat too much :(

I ate at LJS once and I will never eat there again........my experiences with Captain D's have greatly exceeded that one experience at LJS, although I don't usually go to either now since there is no Captain D's around here.

FYI- most seafood you have access to is frozen. Of course, it's not the bottom-feeding crap they serve you at fast food joints, but it is frozen.

FYI -- no it's not, sorry.
Well, at least the stuff I eat. In New Orleans, many of the poboy shops and small seafood places are run by shrimpers or shrimpers' relatives. The shrimp is brought in fresh, daily. Other places I eat purchase their fish every morning from a seafood market.

In New York, it's the same. Most of the places I (especially sushi) purchase their fish and other seafood fresh daily.

The only frozen seafood I know I'm eating is tuna (or wahoo or jack) steaks, redfish and trout filets, whole flounder, and shrimp that my parents send me frozen from New Orleans. The shrimp are bought fresh from shrimpers and the fish is caught by my father. But that doesn't count, because I know exactly how long it's been frozen and the process it went through before getting to me. :)

I'd wager in most cases it is. I know pretty much everything in Atlanta is despite our relatively close proximity to the show.

PS- by "you" I meant "the average american", not you specifically. ;)

When it comes to food (seafood especially), I am definitely not the average American. ;)

Seconded. I wouldn't really call skippers FF(too slow for real FF, but it's not a genuine sit down down restaraunt either), but still, it's hands down better than anything else.:)
