ub is not as bad as you think. just come here and experience it. always stay away from home! it is only 7 hours driving or 1 hours flying to nyc. yea, we are close to toronto(120 miles). they have the BEST chinese food you can get in the entire east coast. if you need your way around ub, you can pm me. rh71 was graduated in here too.

buffalo is not freezing cold, we just have alot of snow. we are alot warmer than those guy in central new york(binghamton, syracuse, ithaca, etc...). we will spend most of your time indoor anyways.

if you are in business, don't forget to join my franternity, AKPsi. :)

ok since you are experienced in Buffalo what nearby stores are there? like clothing electronics etc

He's not asking about the UC's and other private institutions, so why don't you quit crapping all over his thread.

LIU's multimillion athletic center is goin up now, supposedly should be ready for 1st ncaa in the fall.....the place and area is looking much better (i live about 8 blocks away, grad '96 b.s pharmacy) but if i have to do it all over, i'd go to buffalo

it's a commuter school so expect ghost town on friday evenings

why not go to baruch for business? much cheaper
or at least go get yr prerequisites in a CUNY or even a community college then transfer
(think my intern told me it's ~700/credit @LIU now)

I'm from LI but I attended UB for 4.5 years and loved every minute. The campus was awesome. Ellicott was awesome because it was a nice community with thousands of fellow students and a short walk to campus. It had its own dining areas, computing center, pool tables, and fields. UB also has apartment-style housing (but maybe not for freshmen). I can't say enough good things about Amherst either. That's better suburbia than Long Island is in my opinion... and I love it here too. It's been 5 years since I graduated and I still miss it.

LIU at Brooklyn ? You'll have no college life. If you absolutely hate snow, LIU would be for you, otherwise, Buffalo all the way.

BTW, my wife is from Brooklyn and says LIU is known for Pharmacy. Go to UB!!!!!!!! (We met there - she graduated with business also)

I had an emergency operation at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Amherst. Good times. ;)

When I was choosing colleges, I *almost* went to suny buffalo. However, I got some money from Northeastern, and decided to go there. That said, I have a bunch of freinds who go there, and they all think its a wild time, plus its the best suny school (for engineering, at least). Also, their frisbee team is awesome, if youre into that, and theres a kid on the team who can drink a whole disc in 17 seconds (and if you dont believe me, youll hafta go see for yourself ;)).

are you sure? most of my friends said its boring before i actually visited. Then when i was there i saw what they meant... i heard that SUNY Buffalo is in Amhearst or something? WTF? When i had the time, i went to the South campus and part of it looked like the projects of NYC i went there thinking that's where downtown Buffalo was...i haven't seen Downtown Buffalo, but so far there is not enough stores near the campuses to buy from a variety of stores like in NYC
you can't compare anything to NYC. UB South Campus is in the ghetto... that's where they stuck me my freshman year but you know what ? While on campus, it's safe and I made a ton of friends because the dorms there are even more close-knit. The entire floors were friends. South Campus is more for medical and some mathematics though, you'll hardly go there for academics but you might for bars as there are the popular ones at South Campus. Downtown is not near South Cmapus but you take the train there from the South Campus station. I did it for internships (HSBC), etc. Downtown is almost dead on weeknights... much like most cities but on weekends or before Sabres games, lots of activity. In Buffalo, at least at North Campus, you'll have a much better time if you have a car or know someone who does. Gotta drive around if you go outside of North Campus to get places - it's suburbia.

Or your other option is to go to LIU and have no "college experience" since you'll be around home. Depends what's more important to you.

if you concern about that, yea, we have outlet and mall. the guys in binghamton doesn't have a mall from what I heard. they go to syracuse for shopping. we are also 20mins from niagara falls(casinos, 19 legal age);)

you will need a car go around in buffalo. insurance is here is cheap. $800/yr for me, probably $5000/yr if I use my brooklyn address

hm...one more thing, we got the best asian chicks among all the suny campuses, esp korean.

man I'm whoring out Buffalo, but whatever... they have a few malls in the area (suburbia again), which you'll need a car to get to. I know as a city person, that doesn't sound intruiging but this is the time for change / new experiences right ? You'll meet tons of NYC people in Buffalo. Tons, no lie. (BTW, are you asian or no ?)

As for electronics, they have Media Play there (I think it's still around) which is a lot like Best Buy.
