OK, i have been stuck with this darned, capped cable for long enough! This cable is way overcrowded, and I can't even get any decent rates off it anymore. I've tried everything, the reg mods, etc. Even with Windows 2000, this connection is slow. I have also been interested in doing some hosting. And I am happy to say that some of the hosting would be for various Team AnandTech distributed computing needs.
I am looking for a fairly close ISP with some nice bandwidth for me, etc. So, I will probably be using an Oronico PCMCIA wireless card or even the Compaq (yeah, and i still don't like the brand) PCI wireless NIC. Then from there, I suppose I will have to set up some kinda tower or mast with a sat on the top. This is the only part I'm not to excited about. Yet, I need this connection
. Basically, I am not sure of the distance to the ISP yet, but I was wondering if anyone could provide any basic info for me. Geographically, the area I live in is fairly flat. Another convern, is that there are lots of trees and building, etc that would interfere. I know that microwaves don't have the best penetration
.
Thanks for any help you could give!! I am hoping for this to really happen. Good luck to all the Team AnandTech guys!! Keep cracking, whatever the project is!! And those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, or aren't a member, check out the Distributed Computing Forum, and tell them I sent ya
.
Later all!
