long delay booting winxp

after booting winxp, i can access my programs and stuff, but i can't seem to access my dialup connection or my network places until 30 seconds to a minute...why is this?

Do you have a NIC installed that is not connected to anything? If so, go into DevMgr and disable it for "this configuration". When you actually have it connected to something just go back in and enable it. This will also speed bootup for Win9x/me.
