It's a dual core Pentium of some sort. Specs don't look too bad. Don't know if it has built in WiFi. I wonder what the shipping cost is. And...no rebates!

i know the extended warranty at most places on electronics is usually frowned on....but does that hold true with laptops as well? im using my mothers inspiron 1000 and thought i might get my own since im using it for work AND home, but ive never bought a laptop myself before

I would not buy an extended warranty for a $499 laptop.

Extended warranty which covers the laptop and LCD:
$239 for 2 years
$314 for 3 years

Extended warranty for laptop, LCD and accidental coverage:
$380 for 2 years
$490 for 4 years

Most credit cards offer free 1 year extended warranty on all purchases except for real estate and automotive. Which credit card do you have? VISA, MasterCard or Amex?

Considering this has NO REBATES, 1GB RAM, DVD Burner and isn't a celeron I'd go for it.

In fact what are you still doing at home? Since these are CTO (configured to order) they should still be in stock. I just called my local OD and they are still accepting orders, ground shipping is $50 and takes about 2 weeks.

The only thing holding me back is the windows basic. Do you know if the laptop could be configured with windows premium instead of basic in-store? Bestbuy have the Acer Laptop with same spec except Windows premium for $600. It's avilable now for pickup and so the difference in two systems are $50 for windows premium. Although the ability to play DVD instantly without booting into windows (most of the new HP and Compaq laptop) is nicer.

We're leaving for OD as soon as I get dressed. I'll write down the upgrade options and report back here in about 2 hours.
