Hi Everyone;

I've had Windows XP for about 10 months and haven't had any problems. About a week ago - when I attempt to open SOME programs on my 'home' page - it will take appx. one minute before the program opens. I can click on the Outlook Express icon - opens right up; click on installed program icons - open right up; click on the Internet Explorer icon - will take literally a minute before it opens; click on the My Computer icon - same thing, will open about a minute later as well as some others.

I've run Norton; Adaware; Spybot; disk fragmenter; cleaned out temp files, etc. to attempt to clean out any problems - but this delay on some programs is VERY, VERY frutstrating.

If anyone has any ideas/tips I would GREATLY appreciate any help you could send my way !!

Thanks - stevejb.Text

When you ran Norton, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc, did they find anything beyond just tracking cookies?

no - although one time when running Ad-Aware, a Norton pop-up appeared stating a virus was detected that Norton was unable to delete/quarantine. Stupidly, I didn't make note of the name/info, etc. of the virus(sorry, I'm new to this stuff)and when I ran it again to retrieve the info it didn't re-appear. FYI - I also ran Ad-Aware & Spybot in Safe Mode. My thinking was that I somehow managed to get a virus versus me screwing something up - but that's why I'm looking to you guys, the "smart ones" to try and help me out !!! Everythhing was running great and them BAM - I shifted into extra low gear trying to open up certain programs !!

Thanks mechBgon - I'm going to try the link Schadenfroh referenced and see what I come up with.

Carry on with the Hijack This routine, and I would also be curious to hear which version of Norton you're using. You should be able to look up what that virus was that Norton detected, look in the logs. If so, please post what it is?
