Long computer lags in response

My computer is acting funky, to put it technically. :)

The most obvious problem is at start. Windows comes up but hangs for at least a minute before all the startup apps load. A few load into the system tray and then it just hangs at least a minute before the rest load, Rainmeter comes up, and it's done. Other examples are freeze ups when loading apps, Web pages or slow responses to input. Another odd one: animated GIFs are slow as crap.

This wouldn't be an issue if the computer wasn't:

* Core i7-860 (not overclocked)
* Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3 mobo
* 8GB ram
* Win7-64
* Seagate Momentus XT 500GB drive (with the flash, so it should be fast)
* ATI Radeon HD 5770 video

I've checked the device drivers. No conflicts, no missing drivers. All the drivers are the newest versions. So having ruled out one obvious problem, what could be some of the others?

Can't post the DxDiags but no conflicts were found.

try reinstalling the graphics and chipset drivers.. as may their corrupt....

Also.. try scanning for malware and viruses... SPYBOT, SuperAntiSpyware or Malware Bytes AntiMalware are all good to try... Run them in safe mode

Ok. Did do the graphics but not chipset. And did the scans (obvious) but not in safe mode. Will try.

Is this a new build .. or was it running fine and now you've recently begun experiencing these problems?

Running fine until recently.

What exactly should I look for in Event Manager? I found a bunch of errors and warnings under Administrative Events.

If there are red or yellow warnings, see if you can coincide the time of day with your problem to see if they are possibly relevant.
