Long Boot Problem.

I have three P200 MMX computers in my office. All three have identical hardware, MB, Ram, HD, Video, ect. Two out of the three boot right up with no problem. The third takes 5 to 6 times as long to boot up. I get no error messages. I tried changing the HD and ram and I get the same results. The computet also has a problem with the mouse freeking out from time to time, and the screen not refreshing. Please help. Ape Out.

Have you tried formatting and re-installing? A machine at my job that hasn't been maintained for years used to take 5 minutes just to restart. Once I formatted and re-installed, it takes half the time.
You could also try running ScanDisk and Defrag.

does this computer have a nic? If so is it connected to a network or internet connection. A nic with no connection can cause a system to boot and shut down lots slower.

What OS and what network protocols are installed/in use?

I also recommend Defragging. Don't use the one with windows though. I use Diskeeper. It is quicker and more effective than the freebie that comes with windows.

If you are running windows 98, go to the run button and type in "msconfig", go to the startup tab and let me know what all is checked.

Win 98se. Networked on a Peer to Peer, full sharing. Using Netbeui as the protocol. I am going to try a fresh install. I will updated with results.
