Lone Gunmen: Pentium 4 reference??

I just watched the premier of Lone Gunmen (from the x-files) on Fox. They featured a "new" processing chip.. The Optanium 4. They were saying how it had somewhere around 6.8 megaflops and how it had a modem onboard which could transmit signals and keep records on the users. Sounds like the Pentium III, which has a serial number. And now, maybe the Pentium 4 has ways of keeping track of users... Just thought it could be related.

I thought it was Octium (or something like that). My way of thinking (though I could very well be wrong) is that oct=8 (right?) and pent=5. Pentium=586, Octium=886. According to Intel P2=686, P3=786, P4=886. So according to my math the "Octium" would be the Pentium 4. Does this make any sense.

I always thought that the series from the PPro all the way up until the P3 were based on the same 686 architecture. Therefore I just assumed that the P4 must be the 786? Correct me if I am wrong.

Yea...didn't watch the show, but the P3 was still 6th generation. The P4 was Intel's first 7th, so it would be dubbed the 786 had they kept the old numbering system.

The PPro, P2, and P3 are really 686s but that is not what Intel would like us to think.
