More than 100 cyclists have ridden around London naked in a mass protest against dependency on the oil industry....

What would the Brits think of next?

PS. I think is more appropriates here in OT because it does seem to belong to politic.

Uh,the World Naked Bike Ride started in Spain, and besides having spread to England, it's also spread to a lot of US cities (and other countries as well).

Same here in Toronto. Get this, some of the goons got stopped by police and weren't given a ticket(not illegal here) but were put on the National Sex Offender Registry. Explain that one to the boss huh?

Take all the parts off of their bikes that rely on oil to manufacture and they would be walking. Idiots.

Guess the whole point flew right over your head huh? :disgust:

I think you are the one that missed the point. Everyone that bitches about dependency on oil fails to calculate that all of the things they rely on every day for their comfy little lives require oil. Bikes won't haul goods, naked activists, but not goods.

The amount of oil required to produce and maintain a bicycle for the course of it's useful life is probably about what the average american burns in a single day driving to work and back. Yes, the bicycle stil ldepends on oil, but in such small quantities that it would be entirely feasible to use use only domestic oil, or even only synthetic oil.

And no, bikes don't haul things very well, but there is a TON of oil burned every day that isn't burned in the process of hauling things.

No, and I'm well aware that everything down to plastics requires oil to be produced and or transported. The point of the demonstration was not say carry goods on bikes, nor about hauling of goods in trucks either.

I understand that Tyler. The point is EVERYONE uses/relies on oil EVERYDAY....EVERYDAY. There is no way to currently avoid that. I never intimated that the amount of oil used to make bike parts was comparable to what idiot SUV drivers waste everyday. I was simply stating that EVERYONE relies and is dependant on oil for EVRYTHING in their lives. Now there may still be some hippie communes living off the land and using animals for all power but I bet they still have some items they had to BUY and thus....they rely on OIL.

Yes, but nobody really cares that we use oil AT ALL. What bothers people is our reliance upon foreign nations for it, the amount of money we spend on it, and the pollution that burning it causes. The reason people want to reduce dependency on oil is to reduce those three scenarios, not simply because using oil is bad.

Which is part of their demonstration (why do you think they were on bikes?). The article even cited "Riders in 54 cities were protesting at the 'destructive effects of car culture'" . The point also being the lack of alternatives or choices being offered by governments/industries to at least lessen the use/waste of oil. Calling them idiots for just trying to gain public awareness on an important issue is not an idiotic thing.
