Was just about to post this. The pictures are absolutely horrifying. Happened in the middle of the night. God I hope everyone got out of there.

Yeah, the spectacle is horrible. Given the scope of this fire, I don't think I'm going out on a limb in assuming there are going to be casualties. Let's just hope it isn't too many.

Man, they've had a rough time of it across the pond these past few weeks.

Wow, that's a huge fire. Earlier today, there was a fire and explosion by oxygen tanks at an oil and gas well nears here but no one was hurt.

Just heard about this right now. The pictures are utterly terrifying to say the least.

However, this was actually a disaster that was waiting to happen. Some sources have pointed out that the landlords responsible for overlooking that apartment block have violated fire safety codes, and that the landlords have done a shoddy job at renovation by coating the entire building in something to make it look "newer". The coating could've been both bad quality and flammable. Disgusting and completely unacceptable.

This type of fire should not happen in a first world country so those responsible need to be made an example of. Appalling.

Surprised no one has mentioned a possible terrorist plot. Was my first thought when seeing this. Remember after 9-11 there were reports of terrorist attempting to rent rooms in hi rise buildings and they would put explosives in them and collapse the building.

Hmm, so this was a council house (public housing) and yet I read that rent was $2,500/month??

I heard about this on the news. I figured a floor was on fire. Not the entire effing building. Shocking to say the least.

How old is that building? And it must've been such a mess and unsafe state for a fire to spread so quickly and so devastating. It's almost unbelieving for a building to get to that state before emergency responders to arrive and contain.
