Actually studies have shown that young people can hear at higher frequencies than adults. So if the ringtone can produce those frequencies, it would appear to be silent to adults but younger people can pick it up.

Just turn the darn thing OFF, and let people leave a mesage.

When I was in High School,
there were no cell phones /pagers.

I made it to and from school fine, LOL.
 
I can attest to the fact that there is an audible high frequency noise, however, taking notice of it would be the hard part. You barely realize it's ringing, and you couldn't f'ing answer your phone in class anyway.
 
You would think the teacher would become aware when the student picked up the phone to respond to a txt message or answered the call.
 
Welcome to last month. There was a site where you could download them all to see where your hearing cuts off.
 
Schools, restaurants, movie theaters, libraries, etc. all should be allowed to BLOCK ALL CELLPHONE communications with the EXCEPTION of 911 calls. (and perhaps text messages if the phone vibrates only) PERIOD.

I don't want to hear the excuse about an emergency at home or if the person is a doctor (theater/restaurant excuse). :roll:

Folks with essential roles existed long before cell phones and everything was fine.

Just another pet peeve I have that people THINK they MUST have the darn thing with them everywhere or hell is freezing over.

I'm amazed at the number of people I see on a cell phone when we're out to sea. It's costing them roughly $5 per minute. Of course there's people that are unaware of this and when they get their phone bill it very well could be more than their cruise cost. :Q

I've thought about this in the past while at the movies but just don't think it'll ever realistically be done since there are true situations where someone needs to be able to receive a call, like a parent being called about their child being injured for example.

Again in the pre-cell phone era people with children went to the movies. If people are that paranoid or have irresponsible folks watching over their children they should stay home.

its called technology. Every day things are invented that better our lifestyle. I'll bring my phone to the movie and put it on vibrate if I think the sitter might need to get ahold of me.

If I were a teacher at a school I think I'd allow cellphones but only if the ringer was turned off (not vibrate) and students could only check the devices for messages between classes, on lunch, etc.

Just because people got along without before does not mean that we should still be that way today.

yep. People got along before without it, but you can apply that term to hundreds of things. Cars, computers, blah blah.

The issue is with responsible use, not the technology itself.

Unfortunately people are so irresponsible that we decide to cut out reasoning and just start banning things

I would rather have my phone on and piss off a few people then miss a call from teh sitter saying my kid fell down and broke her arm or heaven forbid something worse.

and if something happens it does not mean i had a irresponsible sitter. things happen and with a child anything can. a sitter can stop a accident from happening.
