lolol Mario Batali bites the hand that feeds

Channeling some of the anger of Occupy Wall Street, Batali bemoaned the influence of the financial industry with a rather inapt comparison:

The ways the bankers have kind of toppled the way money is distributed and taken most of it into their hands is as good as Stalin or Hitler and the evil guys.

surprise surprise, guess who can afford $150 tasting menus

This did not sit well with the many bankers who take their clients to Batali establishments such as Babbo and Del Posto -- and they made their ire known swiftly.

In the restaurant review section of the Bloomberg financial network -- the online home of Wall Street -- Batali's restaurants were bombarded with negative reviews. By Thursday morning, all of the five most reviewed restaurants were Batali owned, and nearly every one of those reviews said "don't go."

"If you like betrayal, you should go," one reviewer wrote about Del Posto, the Batali establishment where a seven-course meal with wine pairings goes for $300.

Dealbreaker, a Wall Street blog, reported that Tullett Prebon, a financial firm, banned its employees from doing business at Batali's restaurants.

lulz

And this is why the OWS movement is fail. The people sitting in the parks, and the people supporting them from the wings, don't understand how the economy works. They almost all want the government to step in and curtail the banks, but they don't understand that the government is what allowed these banks to do what they do.

They staged a boycott? That's nothing like Hitler or Stalin. If they were like Hitler, they would have seized control in the Babbo Putsch, and if they were like Stalin, they would have gone after Batali with an icepick. A boycott makes them sound like a buch of hippies.

The bankers are complaining so they can actually get reservations at his restaurants. Typical banksters.

lol sometimes its best to know who your customers are.

he opened his mouth and is not paying for it.

Consequences, he's learning they exist from his actions and words.

How many of the evil banks loaned him money to build his business and become wealthy?

I even read some banks are refusing to expense meals at his restaurants now.

Ugh, I wouldn't go to any of his restaurants anymore after one bad experience. I went to his restaurant in Vegas and had one of the worst meals of my life. The food was awful, salty, not cooked properly and priced way too high. This view was also shared by everyone in my family, my dad and uncles being professional chefs specializing in Italian food.

I hate his fat face and high and mighty attitude. He sells overpriced pasta and thinks that he is better than his costumers prick!!!. I had a meal in one of his restaurants about a year ago it was terrible and the waiter was in the bathroom when I was there guess what he left without washing his hands!!!!
Mario Batali I hate you !!!

wut?

The system melted down because the government had its thumb in its ass. This would never have happened if the government would actively do something to prevent bad lending practices. This is why Canada was not hit as hard as the US.

yOu mean they want government to go back to doing what they always did--curtail the banks?

how does this sound contradictory to you?

from the guy that was thrown off the food network once it was revealed he was stealing from his waitstaff, etc.

Eh? The Food Network has taken cue from History Channel and Discovery--they are flooding program with talentless hacks like Rachel Ray and Sandra Lee and getting rid of the real talent, like Batali, because in our culture--vapid, cheap, mass-produced sell better.

This is why History channel is now the Ancient Aliens channel and Discovery Channel is...fuck, I have no idea now. Shark week channel?

The detail you're missing is that his restaurants are still full. Lots of people can afford $150 tasting menus in NY, not just bankers. Hell, most of those guys are in there because of the name and for the fact that it's expensive. This might open up the table for people who actually care about the food, and if the place is any good, it won't skip a beat.

Meh, I'd still go there. Pissed that I missed out when I was in NYC that one time.
