Awesome. Audi really does not have an answer to the M3, the RS4 is a sporty saloon car, but in terms of anything really competitive for a sports coupe?

Nothing until the RS5. :D

the user generated responses to the "m3: checkmate" were far better than what audi ended up going with

:Q :laugh:

That is pretty awesome, haha. Too bad they'd get a lot of complaints if they put that one up.

Check this one

That's a good one, but what is the A8L?

And is it that good?

the A8 is audi's large sedan - same segment as the BMW 7 series.

Both are pretty nice though, and Audi has improved MASSIVELY. For every 5-year period, you can watch Audi continually improve over and over.

The Audi Quattro wasn't too bad and in my opinion, it looked just as good as the M3 of that time.

It was produced from '83 to '89 and it was the basis for some awesome rally cars.

I would take neither. I rather have a car that does not need work all the time and not need a small loan every time to cover the cost. :p

Problem with Audi is FWD/AWD on all their cars. They'll never really compete with BMW/Merc until that changes. Right now, they're more in line with Acura. Seriously, for a little over 40 large you can have a quattro a4 with 200 hp or a 335i with 300. Why would anyone pay that premium for a lesser car?

My personal breakdown is a mixed bag...

1 Series > A3
3 Series > A4
M3 > S4
TT/TTS > Z4 (The latter being way too feminine now IMO.)
5 Series = A6 (Both kinda suck, leaning towards 5-series.)
X5 > Q5
M5 > S6
A5/S5 > 6 Series / M6
A8 > 7-Series (Just barely)
S8 > *
R8 > *

(BMW currently has no Q7 competitor; Audi has no X3, X6 competitors.)

Audi Interiors > *
MMI > iDrive (though the latter is much improved now that it has coped MMI)

Thing is, Audi produces some nice cars that look nice, and I imagine their A4 with its 1.8T is cheap and easy. But between that the RS series, there's nothing much I'd go for. BMW then.

Audi's are some of the most beautiful cars on the road. I'm not partial to the new BMW's look at all.

I always thought that Audi's RS was the competition for BMW's M

RS6 = M5
S6 = 550i
A6 = 528i

RS4 = M3
S4 = 335i
A4 = 328i

And so on...

IMO the 1980s through the early 1990s were the high-water mark for German cars. It was before an excessive amount of electronics were added and the cars were very well sorted out mechanically. That time period was Germany doing what it does best, building precision mechanical pieces. Too many little electrical things to go wrong now.
