LOL, wow my case "mod" is good for a 10C drop in CPU temps

Been running my XP1600+ systems on some crappy generic cases with bad airflow.
They don't even have spaces for 80/120mm case fans.

So I took some twist ties and did this ghetto job.
You can see the white twist ties sticking out of the side here.

CPU temps went from 50C to 40C!

haha...i'm gonna take a pic of my ghetto install job. My temp seems to stay @ 32 degrees regardless, but i do it for the hell of it.

Nope, all you've done is lowered the temperature of the sensor by 10C, in all reality the CPU temp has dropped 1-2, if that.

Just another example of how the socket thermistors can be manipulated by good HSF designs or sneaky airflow in the case :)

Confused

I think I'm used to it.
All 3 of my desktops run with case covers off, and my Z560/ADA885/ACS56 speakers drown them out anyway :p

Yeah, actually I am confused.
Isn't the sensor below the CPU, obstructed from most of the airflow?
Its only contact is with the bottom of the CPU so isn't it measuring the temp of the CPU?

unless CPU speed increased, this is a pc-ricer mod with no purpose other than to make noise and waste electricity.

When I put holes in my case with a pick axe it made it faster. Thanks to speed holes!

CPU as in central processing unit or your case temps?

It seems a bit high that CPU temps would drop 10C by just twist tying cables and wires...and maybe adding a few fans?

I could unerstand if your case temps went down that much, but not CPU tems.

BTW, notfred, very true. All it does is make the case cooler...it achieves nothing other than that. Heh. Well, it makes sense in the summer time so your room doesn't have a space heater in it, but most of the time excessive cooling without the goal of increased stability is useless.

I currently have 3 fans in my computer: PSU fan which isn't too bad, a relatively quiet 80mm fan ghetto rigged on my CPU (twist tied onto some random things to sit on top of it pretty much), and the quiet fan on my 8500DV (which will become the quiet fan of a Ti4200 once someone buys my 8500DV... *cough*). It's pretty quiet but I plan to do even better than that - hopefully I'll replace my PSU and CPU fans with an 80mm Panaflo L1As and I'll put an Alpha Z heatsink on the Ti4200. :) Virtually silent rig...yay!

Yeah, my car is still missing a stereo, and you're still a riceboy-nerd.

heh not bad, cept i can't do that because my cpu fan would make me go nutz. 6800rpm coolermaster:p but my case is filled with accoustic foam. only 1 60mm case fan, and one 92mm ps fan.

my cpu is is at a pathetic 69C at 100% load right now. isn't that sad:)

taulatin 1.1a@1.48ghz

i'm thinking of adding one more 60mm fan.

And I'm a riceboy-nerd based on...?

That's pretty funny actually, because you're the one with 9k+ posts, closing in on 10k real fast, as if you wanted to be a Lifer.

And with an attitude like yours, I wouldn't be suprised that the person who jacked your car stereo was someone you knew personally.
Probably a "ricer-nerd" from ATOT :Q

this reminds me of the months i ran my old Celery566@850, with a 80mm fan rubber banded to the heatsink. Eventually the heat of the HS destroyed the rubber and they broke and made a loud crashing noise. The running fan hit the video card and started flopping around. scared the crap out of me.
