I was talking on ICQ and happened to notice the ad that was flashing on the bottom of the box (which I normally don't notice). It was a small looking winamp, with the song title being played "Download FREE winamp - so powerful no wonder its #1."

Thought it was amusing.

Take off of that AOL ad that I have seen over and over again.

"AOL- so easy to use no wonder its #1!"

Hmmm... doesn't seem as funny anymore. I think maybe it is past my bedtime:)

They're using that slogan because AOL owns Winamp. Also, AOL owns ICQ, so its virtually free advertising for them within brands. AOL may be assholes and none of us would ever use them as our ISP, but damn they're smart.

Kinda interesting seeing as how AOL owns ICQ, that they would post advertising mocking their own slogans.

Ha! I didn't think of that. I knew AOL owned ICQ, but I didn't know that they owned winamp. Hopefully they don't bloat winamp a whole bunch.

Winamp 3 is massive. Mostly with features, but its so sloppily programmed. Im sure AOL will fill it with ad's and other crap in due time.

I love how Nutscrape, and AIM both place FIVE links to their AOL website. Winamp is still ad free so-far.

Yep. Nullsoft has done a good job so far of keeping Winamp from being crapped up though. I hope what DaZ said isn't true.

That sux. I would be very upset if AOL removes all the comments about llamas from winamp 3.x

I hope they don't ruin winamp. Best mp3 player ever.

And I noticed that with AIM. I installed it, and was like WTF? Bookmark to Aol page, dekstop icon, startmenue icon, etc. What the heck is this?

I guess I should've figured out the AOL owning Winamp thing when I noticed that one of the 'features' of winamp is that it includes the AOL desktop icon. I think I should e-mail winamp thanking them to no end for this free icon, because I have no idea where I would get AOL otherwise. I only get AOL cd's every week in the mail, but those aren't the AOL super-heavy-duty-platinum-diamond-best-in-the-world-never-seen-before version that I get with winamp.

Well, I hate to see it, but Winamp is becoming bloatware. On my godly system (Dual P3, Win2000, 768 MB, RAID0) Winamp 3 takes about 5 seconds to load. Winamp 2.76 loads in just under a second, which is still a little slow for me.

Winamp 1.73, which I use most of the time, loads pretty much instantly. That's much better than just under a second. :)
