Went to Best Buy to purchase an XBOX Live Gold Card... my time expired.

I go to the Games department.. look around.. can't find a gold card. i see where they SHOULD be... but the slot is empty.

Figured there might be more in the back, i ask one of the employees if they have any XBox Live Gold cards around or in the back.

The sales person then asks me "do you mean xbox elite?"
No.. i want an Xbox Live Gold timecard. My time expired, and i wish to purchase a card to extend it.
The sales person then tells me that Microsoft doesnt make an XBox Live Gold.
I then tell him, yes.. they do... can i speak to someone who works in the games department?

He tells me he works in the Games department, and can help me with what i need.

I then explain to him that he must not be familiar with the games department, because he doesn't know about XBox Live Gold, and ask for an employee who is familiar with the games department stock.

Looking visibly upset, he asks this guy who walks by "hey.. have you ever heard of this XBox Live Gold thing" ... and the guy tells him yea, what about it?

I ask him if there is any XBox Live Gold card around, and he takes me to an endcap over by the registers where all of them are located.

I thank him for his time, and pay for the card.

Before anyone bitches why i didnt just extend it online, i had a $50 Best Buy gift card that i had gotten for Christmas, and didnt want anything else.

/end rant

No one should bitch at you about that - you don't want to link your credit card to your Live account, it's apparently really difficult to get Microsoft to remove the card from your account.

I paid for a Logitech G500 mouse on Friday evening for Store Pick-up. On Saturday I get the email saying it was ready for pick-up. I get to the Best Buy and wait in the Customer Service line for half an hour and finally get to see someone and they said they have none left, sold all of them, and don't know when they are getting any. I was so pissed.

i did look.

i looked in the games department.. you know .. where it SHOULD BE.

silly me for not thinking that these Xbox Live Gold cards would be considered "impulse buys" by Best Buy.

You pay to play console games online. Who's the stupid one here?

no.. i pay mostly for the Netflix Streaming via XBox Live.

My GF has a 4-year-old and is mezmerized by the Thomas and Friends videos. Netflix has like 8 available for streaming.. so it keeps him occupied for hours.

I also watch movies in HD via the streaming.

my GF just bought Dragon Age: Origins and wanted to download the DLC (got 1 free with purchase of DAO) .. so it was two-fold.

-Somebody going to checkout
"oh, an xbox live gold card.. I always wanted one of those"

:D

Seriously. Nobody is going to buy one out of impulse. People are going to buy them for the sole purpose of buying one.

I hated it when Best Buy did that! I was working in the games/movies/music department and they would move shit out of my area so I can't possibly find it. The computer says I have 200 copies of some movie, but they're not on the alphabetical shelves, not on the new release shelf, not on any of my end caps, and they're not in the back. Where are they? Oh they're by the register, that area I'm not allowed to be in because I'm supposed to be in the entertainment department at all times.

i can understand putting SOME of them up at the registers... but LEAVE SOME IN THE DAMN DEPARTMENT!!

how many customers are gonna ask or look elsewhere for their item? not many. i wonder how many sales they lose because of this crap.

You're a dumbass and a troll.

You could get a Roku box for $99... that's 2 years of Live if you pay full price for Live.

my GF just bought Dragon Age: Origins and wanted to download the DLC (got 1 free with purchase of DAO) .. so it was two-fold.

You only need Xbox Live Silver (free) to purchase or download DLC.

Xbox Live Gold really only makes sense if you use it to play online games. But it's $50, c'est la vie.

It makes sense if you use Netflix Streaming.. which i do... and it was $39.95/12 months..

$3.50/month to watch unlimited Netflix movies in HD on my HDTV, makes plenty of sense to me.

I do all the IT work as a consultant for a small business and today was getting two new laptops ready for deployment. One of the managers there had just went to Best Buy and picked up two.

As I went through the bag I noticed two upgrades to Win 7 Pro. Since we don't run a domain in the office I called him up and asked what gives.

"The guy at Best Buy said we couldn't get on the network without Win 7 Pro."

/facepalm

This is why I tell them to ALWAYS get my input before buying new laptops or PCs.

we do that all the time at the place I work at. We basically act like retards and try to sell you something because we can't help you with what you came in for.

lol, it is rather funny for us though.

Although if the guy was seriously not sure what it was then it would be pretty sad.

If the dude pretended to not know what XBOX Live Gold was, in order to sell me XBOX Elite... then i have to ask.. WTF??? He had to know i would have to have an XBOX in order to use XBOX Live Gold.. so the "suggestive selling" makes no sense.
