Most annoying review writer ever.
You realize that the writer of that article happens to be the moderator of this PSU forum, right ?

Way to get on the mods bad list......

Sorry, the guy who OWNS the site is the moderator here....johnnyGuru

Sorry to call you on the carpet in public Mark but Johnny Guru didn't post that article as an Anandtech Moderator so another's opinion of it is fair game. There is no reason why someone criticizing the article should find themselves on any on our staff's bad list and you saying such isn't fair to our members or our staff.

I didn't know he was a moderator, and I don't see how that's relevant. He was really overdoing it with the repeated attempts at snark about the low quality appearance and that sticker-- get to the facts already! I almost stopped reading when it looked like all he was going to do was rag on how cheap it looks. I think reviews are better when they're more like scientific articles than emails from your office know-it-all tech guy!

It's a really good PSU test though, because it specifically demonstrates how crappy those cheap PSUs are. I'm gonna pass it on, but starting with page 3.

Edit: BTW, if mod call outs aren't allowed on this forum, why is a post like yours warning of "getting on the mods bad list" allowed? Do you see the inconsistency? If mods even have a "bad list", something is seriously wrong. It's just not professional. What mods should be concerned with is enforcing the forum rules, not putting you on a bad list because you complain about their articles on other websites being annoying.

Obviously an error in judgement. Mark's done an outstanding job as a Moderator which I believe most of the membership will agree with. Nobody is perfect.

I have to wonder if that unit was intentionally sent out for review by the mfr? Or, did Jeremy pull it in to alleviate some boredom?

I would agree if the criticism had been false or concerned mostly with superficial matters, but virtually every point dealt with serious or even dangerous shortcomings of the product. The only exceptions were the comments over the asthetics (the photos allow readers to judge that themselves, so why are they factored into the numeric score?). And the criticism of the very thin and small heatsinks was unfair since no temperature measurements were taken of the semiconductors, and it's quite possible the heatsinks of this $18 power supply were made of solid diamond and provided superior cooling.

Just one look at the PCB and I knew it was junk. Those diodes couldn't even survive long term , way too small. The switchers are a joke. I wouldn't expect a first year designer to produce something like that. You better hope the fan works if you got one of those. It is the only thing that may keep it from going up in smoke, the heatsinks sure will not.

I dont understand how a power supply like that one can be rated at 580 watts when it clearly is incapable of doing it. That would be like taking a 3 ghz intel chip and advertising it as a 6 ghz chip. Clearly this is wrong, but how can it happen and be accepted when it can't do what it even claims to do??

Just wait until overclocking becomes accepted by the mainstream. When that happens, expect processors to be sold, rated by their "max" speeds.

Such as, Sandy Bridge, "max 6Ghz". It's not exactly a lie, with sufficient cooling, most if not all of those chips are probably capable.

Same reason that you can buy "300W" car audio amplifiers for $19.99 at Walmart or Kragen. Those companies do their own ratings and obviously feel that there are enough uneducated buyers out there to justify it.

that guy was funny, brutally so. bookmarked.

Also, a 200w psu marketed as 580w... hilarious. the really bad thing about it is that the ONLY thing that worked on the PSU is the overpower protection circuitry... which shuts down the unit if you try to do more than 330 watt.

also also... one of the fans wasn't working... because it was unplugged :p
