Take it for what it is... a company that will be either strong-armed out of retail space or underpriced out of exisitance by the "Big Three" console companies; each of whom have billions in assets, close ties to strong developers and publishing houses, and weight to throw around in the retail space.

Welcome, "Phantom", you are the next "Nuon" technology. :)

I swear, I must've checked the date to be sure it wasn't April 1st about 10 times before posting this!!! ;)

Sounds like a computer.

I like to keep my console gaming and computer gaming seperate... they are just a different style of playing.

I guess no company likes do market research anymore. I hope this company realize that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo will also release another verison of their game console in the future which will be faster, etc...

This has been tried a dozen times by other small companies and they've all failed miserably.

They should just rename it "Nuon II" and call it a day.

I forget what it was called....but there was another no-name console that was supposed to come out and compete with XBox/Cube/PS2, it was based on the Athlon....that never came to life, I don't know that this will either.

I wonder if its a computer that uses MAME.

From IGN
"Broadest selection of preloaded games"
"Demo games before purchasing or subscribing"

From Gamespy
"according to the company nearly potentially thousands"

If they got the licensing from all the companies that have arcade games, or convinced them to jump on board. They
would have the broadest selection of preloaded games that might include old school favorites like Pacman etc. Sure they could have all the old arcade games, license all the NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System etc. That would give them
a ton of games but as for ones that people would actually play not really. There were a lot of crappy old school games from various systems.

If they brought the Panasonic Q over here and for cheaper(<$500) I would strongly consider getting one.

Actually I would like to see NEC get in the game again. It was a good little console back in the day. Especially with its CDROM.

Dude... I remember playing Bonk's Adventure for hours on end over at my cousin's house. Then, when Bonk's 3 came out, my cousin and I picked up both Bonk's 2 and Bonk's 3 and had a weeked party playing them. That and Vigilante were THE SH|T. :D

I missed out on the Neo*Geo and TurboGrafx systems... the NeoGeo always looked SWEET, but at the the time (real early 90's) they wanted $89-$140 per cartridge!

That's sad. Even with microsoft's name and marketing they are losing a ton of money just to get their name out there. I hope this place has at least a billion to throw away just to get name recognition. There is no room for 4 consoles, that's for damned sure. Wonder how they found the VC for this. Perhaps it uses a bitboys graphics chipset and will be the only console to have duke nukem forever and team fortress 2.
cross-platform capabilities (what platforms were disclosed)
Don't konw what the hell they want that to mean. If it could run GC, PS2, and xbox games the thing would own, but it can't do that.

Yeah sounds like a computer. Whoopdy doo. This company is on crack if they think developers will just start to create games for them. Or do they just plan to play PC games? "Games on demand"...electronic game rental, etc.? Reminds me of divx...the OLD DIVX, not the video codec. I want my games on a tangible disc or something, that's part of what a console is.

Dumb idea and it'll fail.

edit; i mean it had potential and i'm sure they have good intentions but they're silly if they think they have a chance

Like someone said, a set-top MAME box seems very likely, especially if they could work out licensing with all of the companies like namco/capcom/etc.

A set-top emulator box might actually be a really good deal, and I'd imagine Sega/Nintendo would gladly allow them to use the games for a small licensing fee per game. I know guys who still have their NES's because they love to play the old games. Emulation is beyond them. A simple, set-top emulator would simplify things. Then, they just need to have it broadband capable with a website to "buy" games. They could write in some sort of special code, so run of the mill roms couldn't be used.

Heres another newslink. Text This one makes me think it's not an emulator, just because it's supposed to far exceed the needs of gamers.
