i don't think they will call for formal impeachment. if you read the quotes from this CNN article, they're just looking to impeach someone. which means there's no real basis in reality for the impeachment. if you were opening an impeachment inquiry, it would target a specific person for a specific reason. and republicans have neither (then again, not like they care about that)

“If I had to pick one, I would pick Biden,” said Rep. Andy Ogles, a Tennessee Republican and member of the House Freedom Caucus.

Firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican who is not only seeking to expunge Trump’s two impeachments but also introduced a slew of impeachment articles against Biden and members of his Cabinet, told CNN: “I couldn’t prioritize one.”
That sentiment was echoed by Rep. Ralph Norman, a hard-right South Carolina Republican who said impeaching Biden is just “the start of the list.”

Dare I say I'm almost expecting this to backfire spectacularly.

Good grief, I hope they dont do that. We cant stoop to the democrats level of constantly trying to impeach. Just ignore the extreme right wing and focus on legislation as its the only thing that matters. Impeachment is such a waste of time.
Are we pretending Republicans didn't impeach Clinton?

Did it ever occur to you impeachment should only happen when warranted.

If Republicans can articulate the high crime or misdemeanor then have at it.

Example: Try to change the results of an election by fraud qualifies.

I'm pretty sure that if this happens is it because McCarthy is throwing a bone to the FreeDumb Circus in order to calm them down for the budget debate.
Most likely one of their requirements to not throw a tantrum and close down the government this fall.
It won't work of course; you can't negotiate with people like that.

I think the goal here would be to normalize impeachment so that the average person says ‘everyone gets impeached nowadays’ so that real misconduct like Trump’s fades into the background.

Unfortunately due to the corruption of conservatives it’s no longer possible to convict someone even when they attempt a coup so yes, it’s all basically theater at this point.
Of course the liberals are pure as driven snow.

How is that a meaningful response? As we’ve discussed previously Trump was impeached for using US foreign policy for his own personal benefit and impeached a second time for attempting a coup.

If you would like to provide examples of liberals attempting a coup I’m open to hearing them.

Compared with the current crop of conservatives, today’s Democrats are whiter than the sheets their Southern ancestors used to wear. American politics is a game of thrones and lies, but Trump and the MAGA movement have taken it to new lows.

Back when Nixon and his cabinet committed their crimes, it was *their own party* that held them all accountable (well…except for that pardon from Ford.) That just can’t happen with today’s GOP. Why does George Santos still have a seat in Congress?

Every political party does fucked up things now and then but there is no comparison to the coup attempt Trump tried.

Trump and the Republican Party attempted to end American democracy. Period.

The sad thing is Trump might actually win. No I will not for him.

I actually don't recall how I felt about it at the time.

It wasn't decades ago. I bet you can recall how you felt about the Clinton impeachment in the 90s though, amirite?

Are you really this stupid, or just dishonest? 'Both' is a valid answer, btw.

The Republican Party has lost all credibility with the majority of the American people, in my opinion, and will not win fair democratic elections. The ways they have won in the past was to create a backlash against governance by creating paralysis. See to it the government doesn’t work and blame the other side.

This is why Greenman is happy when government does not work. He bought the lie that the reason that government is dangerous is because they take his money and ignore his needs.

But not everyone is as susceptible to falling for this trick. Over time it has become much clearer that it is the Republicans that are destroying Democracy.

This leaves them now with a dying party, one that can’t win elections. Their only viable path is to finish the job of destroying democracy itself. Their game has been exposed and the gloves are off. The Republican Party is a Mafia organization, a protection racket whereby membership promises to protects you from the itself.

Not a member, you are a heretic. It’s a great system up to the point where the madness created by fear among the members becomes too great to contain.

I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky. She just gave me a Lewinsky and I lied about it under oath. Totally not impeachable.
I also love how they think (without evidence) that Biden took bribes and that's impeachable but paid zero attention to the former president taking bribes for his entire term through his hotel down the street from the White House.

And conservatives always forget that once they rid the world of all the "others" their instincts to root out others does not shut off, it just starts identifying and eliminating the "others" within.

This is the nature of self hate projected. There are no end of enemies until you discover you can't survive without a community. Humans are a social animal and nothing on their own. There is only one human race and every person is a member. It's just a matter of seeing it, seeing past fear.

In the mean time Republicans have shown more and more people the thing to fear is them:

The problem is that Clintod did not know he hates himself and has an unconscious need to destroy his reputation so that he could feel the humiliation that make him sick as a child. We all want to get back into our childhood traumas in the hope we can fix them without remembering the original event. The psychological thrill is in tempting fate. How exciting to get a blow job while talking to a Senator on the phone. Self haters can never feel truly successful and unconsciously seek to prove it. Clinton is pitiful but Gingrich is a slimy cold blooded amphibian.
