On the show gangland, the gang members often talk about how the drug dealers were their idols growing up. They are the ones in the projects with money, bling, cars, and women. Most of them end up dead or in jail, that's not a good future. At least we might break the cycle of so many disadvantaged kids wanting to follow in their foot steps.

Then there are growers and others that could get involved in the agricultural aspects, where their expertise would be highly sought after.

Billions saved on enforcement, prosecution, and warehousing. Billions more in taxes, and jobs in the production and distribution chain.

Why is it so terrible to think, that someone might come home after a hard day, and stop by the corner store for some MJ instead of a 12 pack? The harder drugs should remain illegal, they are just too destructive.

Again, why does the left want to legalize MJ when they want to outlaw smoking, trans fats, SUV's, fast food, etc...

I asked that question in a different thread. They are all for banning things they think are evil but attack their magic herb and look out!

As if there is one huge group called 'the left' who all believe exactly the same thing...

Besides I don't see what this has to do with socialism. It's more a liberal/authoritarian thing. If you're in favour of legal cannabis you should be in favour of legal cigarettes and even loose gun laws. It's the only consistant liberal position.

The spokesman, who is obese, was talking about how we see people destroying their health with drug abuse. Abusing food is also terrible for your health, maybe he missed that memo?
I don't mind the idea of destroying your own health. Perhaps if we had a socialized healthcare plan, then there can be some things that should not be covered (Lung damage if you are a smoker, heart care if you are obese, liver treatment if you drink, etc).

Don't take what I wrote the wrong way. Believe me, the fallout for drug dealers, growers, kingpins, etc. doesn't really matter that much to me. It was just something I was trying to figure out when discussing this topic the other day. I figure a crack salesman is a pos and will continue to be a pos so I was trying to figure out what shay activity they would move on to next.

I dunno.. I personally know some pot dealers and I think if that dried up, they wouldn't get into anything worse. They are just doing it for the extra cash. They aren't violent, have nice homes/cars, family, etc. and they aren't people that would resort to kidnapping, buglrary or anything like.

Crack Dealers in Detroit though. I can't speak for them.

Legalized heroin FTL
Legalizing and regulating heroin would actually reduce the number of accidental heroin overdoses significantly. And accidental heroin overdoses are by far the largest single cause of all illicit drug deaths, with something like 10 times more than all other causes combined.

I've gone back and forth on this whole legalization thing for awhile now. I'm good with MJ being legal but as far as the others I'm not really sure.

Let's say everything is legal tomorrow. We're taxing the hell out of it and making a 'killing'. What would happen to all of the drug dealers? There source of income is now gone. What would be the next big thing uneducated street dwellers would turn to for cash?

This isn't really a valid question, eventually if they are career criminals though they will get arrested..here is the thing:

1. You arrest a murderer or a child rapist. Does that create another murderer or another child rapist? Of course not. Those things are just someone acting evil, not due to some sort of "demand" for them to do those things.

2. You arrest a drug dealer. Yet there is still a demand for drugs in that area. Someone will step in and fill that, in essence when you arrest a dealer YOU CREATE A JOB OPENING.

Drug dealers are there because there is a demand that must be supplied. There is also risk vs. reward.

If the demand is satisfied by affordable and legal drugs from a legit, licensed, taxed, source....the violent drug dealers will go away. Immediately? No, but it will happen.

Just as after prohibition ended the alcohol related crime went away. Immediately? No, but the gangs did dissipate and things settled the hell down.

This is why everything needs to be legal. Some stuff needs to have extreme caveats to be able to purchase, like meth and crack obviously (i don't want my tax dollars going to support anyone who does meth, but i sure as hell don't want to pay for prison for them either unless they commit an actual crime!)....but even so, having a legal or even pseudo-legal supply chain is MUCH MUCH better for society as a whole.

People need to take the emotional "but such and such is bad!" argument and throw it out the window. Instead focus on reality and facts.

The more you hate drugs and their effect on people and society, the more you should be for legalizing them.

Then, once the personal use of chemicals is legal, lets go and with the extra legal resources we've got crack down hard on actual crimes. I'd just *love* for cops to have the resources to just fucking nail people who go around and break into people's cars, have the resources to nail more of the theft that goes on...I would love that so much. But they don't have the resources, all of it is tied up in this stupid war on drugs.

"Perhaps if we had a socialized healthcare plan, then there can be some things that should not be covered (Lung damage if you are a smoker, heart care if you are obese, liver treatment if you drink, etc)."

Yep, you nailed it. Personal responsibility comes with freedom. I'm for socialized medicine as well, but I think in order to be able to purchase things like meth, crack, etc (which would be legal) your name would go on a list exempting you from any social programs and assistance.
