LOL...I'm an idiot

I went to grab a hard drive from Office Depot, spend 10 minutes walking up and down the aisles, and even bring the manager to help me look for the maxor hard drive. He says "We've never carried Maxtors". I look at him and say "That's strange" and walk out. As I walk out, I look at the big red sign, stating "OfficeMax"
I realized the OfficeDepot was 2 blocks further down the street

hehe...I felt like an idiot

<erno> hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.
😀

There was a story on Slashdot a few months ago about a CS department somewhere that lost track of one of its computers. It was a 486 that still responded to pings, but no one was able to figure out where it was. They traced patch cables and everything, but it was harder to track down than they'd first thought. It turns out that the system was in an old store room whose door had been plastered over for years. No one even remembered that the room even existed. They brought out blueprints and with the help of some maintenance workers, tore down the plaster and found a sealed door. Lo and behold, behind the door was a still-running 486 that had been sitting where it was for the past 6 years or so (without one day of downtime, obviously). Not sure what OS it was running, but I'd love to read the article again if anyone can still find it. 🙂

There are only two types of people in this world, those who admit they are occasionally idiots and those who lie about it. What concerns me is that those who lie about it sometimes become politicians or corporate CEO's and have the power to screw other people's lives up with their idiocy and never admit that they were capable of making a dumb mistake.

Want to hear something funny? Last Wednesday I lost my car keys and watch. I know I had them while at work that day, so it means they're somewhere in my room... but I have yet to find them. Story over.
