so i was looking at my dad's comp, he has a mobile barton 2500-m and m7ncg-400, and when i booted it up, it ran @ 1000mhz (i set it to 2.2ghz last time i looked at it)

so i figured, oh, cmos must be dead, switched the 2032 battery, and tried to set the clock back

everytime i changed the fsb or mult, comp kept freezing (as in not booting), im like wtf?!?

1/2 hour later, i realized i actually took out his mobile barton a long time ago and gave him an old skool t-bird 1ghz

PWn3D :( :( :( :D

I'm not trying to defend the OP, but my mother wouldn't notice in the least bit if I swapped her 3200+ Barton @ 2.4GHz with a 1.4GHz Tbird (MB & RAM being equal).

Indeed. As long as the parents were informed and consented to the downgrade, there's nothing wrong. My parents didn't notice a thing when I put in my old 1.4GHz Athlon XP in place of their older 800MHz Duron. Of course, dad didn't notice either when the Internet Explorer icon disappeared and was replaced by a Firefox icon (conveniently renamed "Internet" to avoid confusion). ;)

I'm sure that Firefox trickery avoided you many a spyware fiasco as result. If only I'd had been so shrewd. :D

My dad's computer is amazingly stable and clean. He just uses it to read email (Thunderbird), browse the web (Firefox), and edit office documents. Since he never installs anything, I haven't had to reformat it in a long time now. It still runs as smoothly as the day that I first installed Windows on it.

Heh, my parents hate letting me go near their computer. They're always afraid I'm going to "break" it. My response: "Hey, you have a Dell. They have great customer support." :D :D

My stepfather blames me for the modem dying last year in his Dimension R400 from 1998. It happened some weeks or months after the last time I visited, during which I think the most I did was remove some adware. He went out and let a Staples salesperson sell him a USR PCI modem, and when that didn't work after he installed it, he still blamed me. He ended up buying a new HP because the experience made him think Dell's were unreliable, and I'm not allowed to make any changes on the system.
