I had one of those case mod cold cathode that someone gave it to me a while ago. It was blue and like 6 or 7" long. I haven't used it since I had no use for it. It came with its own driver, but I thought I'd go for a bit fun by putting it on 40W driver. It lit up super super bright. I started smelling melting plastic so I turned it off. It was red hot and as it cooled it went POP and cracked, because of thermal stress. LOL that was funny :D

when you say driver, do you mean transformer? I have cold cathodes for my truck and it has a beefy transformer like my underbody neon kit.

Not quite transformer. Neon/cold cathode driver is there to boost the voltage and limit current so your tubes don't melt like mine did. It is basically a current limited switchmode power supply. You have 12V version, but I used one that runs off of 120V AC.

pic. This driver is actually meant for two 48" 32W or 60" 40W slimline lamps.

That is funny Jerboy, I guess you didn't adhere to "National and Local Electrical Code' :D

LOL what's that?

I'm not sure what the exact code is, but it was labeled as a warning in your Pic :)

Damn.. I threw it away already. :(

There wasn't much to see though. It was just a white colored glass tube six inches long by a bit thicker than pen shaft. I did it on top of a ceramic plate just in case. I pushed 40W of high frequency, high power energy and it was working quite well. VERY VERY bright indeed. It was like looking into a Photon Micro LED. It went all well for thirty seconds or so and wires going to the tube started melting. I cut the power off and glass tube was red hot. I put it down on a plate and a few sec later it made "POP!" noise. I picked it up a few min later and glass crumbed away.

I don't have a pic of broken cold cathode tube, but I'll show you the destruction power of arc in concentrated electrical energy.

This piece of copper wire is at room temp

One second after being arced over with high frequency 620V electricity for three seconds

Send me some cold cathodes and I'll do the show for you :D

I can parallel up the two outputs to double the power, so I can probably get the tube to get yellow hot(up a five or six hundred degrees from red hot)this time.
