I had a FTP enabled for a friend to upload some stuff to my server.

I had some trouble getting it to work so I allowed writing to my FTP. I got too lazy to change it back to read only and left it like that for 2 weeks.

Apparently some dude found out. He wiped out my FTP files and created a HUGE directory tree of random characters. And he (or she) used my server to mirror a bunch of movie files.

Funny. Too bad for the dude because I'm deleting them all. 🙂

I only had static IP address and a domain registered for just over one week! :Q
 
that sucks a lot.

i remember when i first moved into my dorm; didnt have a firewall. some guy/girl accessed my pc through network neighborhood and deleted 60 gigs worth of my movies and 3 gigs worth of mp3s. thanks to the university connection, i got most of what i wanted back within a week . 🙂

Whoa! The dude uploaded 2.5 gigs of useless crap. Happy Gilmore rar'ed, a bunch of crappy MP3s I don't listen to, and some anime dubbed to French.

No pR0n as far as I see. At least he could've been nice and uploaded a couple of nice pics or clips of hotties, but no.. Happy Gilmore and French-dubbed anime. 🙂

I'm hitting "delete" as soon as my friend is done checking out the files in case he wants anything.
 
shouldn't delete them, just make it browse only, so he/she can't download them at all but sees that they're still there...just to piss him/her off...haha.. 😛

Someone ran a W32.Trojan infected crap on my computer over the network and trashed everything on two 40GB HDD's.
 
Actually, I should've made a default HTML page that resembles the directory browsing. And when the dude clicks on the links, he gets a message popping up saying stuff like "you're reported to the FBI" etc.

Or take him to a page with that screaming picture. 🙂 That would've been sweet.

Drop $300 and buy an external drive that can fit an image of your HDD.

If thats beyond your budget, get an internal drive even though you'll have to crack open the case everytime you need to backup.


Just remember one thing. DON'T FRIGGIN KEEP THE BACKUP DRIVE CONNECTED on regular basis. W32.Trojan destroys every files on every hard drives it sees. It fills the file with 33 bytes junk, then deletes it making recovery almost impossible without spending $2,700 for a service from Ontrack.


 
I'm installing Norton Antivirus 2001. Hopefully that'll catch any crap left behind.

I doubt that any virus or trojan was intentionally put into my system, though. After all, it was used to "mirror" downloads.

Recreate the links on the page but have him redirected to that goat $ex page. That will show him it's not nice to delete other peoples stuff.
