Hey. And happy Thanksgiving.

Does anyone know what the difference between these three games is?

I own Demigod and just downloaded League of Legends but after watching gameplay on Youtube, they all look like the same formula.

Anyone know the difference. I liked Demigod, but didnt love it. The maps were fun, but the strategy seemed a little hairpin and hard to master. The other two games (Heroes of Newerth being the 3rd) looked like they had great graphics like Demigod, but like Demigod their RTS appeal seemed limited.

The graphics and maps seem good. the automatch aspect of LoL seems worthy, but the whole idea supposedly taken from DoTA seems similar. You have one unit(hero) and possibly some minions. And try and outmaneuver the opponents hero(s).

Can anybody explain their experiences? My RL keeps my gametime limited (and preciousss).

LoL and HoN are DoTA spinoffs, basically. Personally, I prefer HoN as it is nearly identical to DoTA. The main differences are heroes and an improved shopping interface.

HoN = DoTA, with some new heroes and some old ones missing. the reason to play it is because WC3 engine blows so you get improved backend stuff across the board, esp once they get real matchmaking implemented.
DG = slow paced DoTA, some more tatical elements such as general heroes, decisions in how to level up your hero and buying creep upgrades
LoL = spammy DoTA. ability spam spam spam spam. that + tall grass to hide in for stupid ganking from anywhere.

Demigod got boring fast due to limited hero selection, their stupid auto AI replacement when a player drops that often had 1 guy fighting 4 computers in a game that started out 4v4 real players, and an absolutely abysmal PvP matchmaking system based on peer to peer network connectivity and thus suffering the same problems as other peer to peer network games (ie the fastest you ever go is as fast as the slowest player so that one dude on grandmas P200 will fuck over EVERYONE else for 40 minutes)

League of Legends made my eyes bleed.

HoN made me finally uninstall WC3 for good and I have been playing nonstop since. HoN is an amazing revamp of Dota and fixes all the problems with bnet games and then lays a beautiful visual engine ontop of it. Lagless competitive play here is amazingly fun.

I only have experience with HoN and I play when I have time. It's fun game but in team battles it's near impossible to tell what's going on since most abilities have too much graphics associated with them. When you have 6 to 8 heroes setting off 2 to 3 skills, it's just crazy.
Also new people get fooled by easy mode I think. The game is meant to be balanced in normal mode but when people play on easy all the extra money breaks the balance.

demigod was pretty fun. i liked it but wish they had more hero selection. the maps are straight forward tho. so u can see everyone and everything happening at 1 time.

Personally I like LoL better than HoN or demigod, but yeah they all use the DOTA formula.

I also like LoL better than the other two. Established seasons for competition. The persistent elements of the game adds variability in matches. It's free (at least I plan to never spend a dime). And if they keep the promise of content updates - new heroes, new items, new maps - then how can you complain? I'm not a huge stickler on graphics if the gameplay is enthralling and LoL is a very fun game.

Demigod had potential but ultimately failed due to the lack of heroes. One of the great things about DOTA/HON/LoL is that there are many different combinations of heroes. And also the netcode sucked and I never played a game that wasn't lagged to hell and/or suffered dropouts.

You understand HoN is almost a carbon copy?

yes i do.
it's like they tried to hard to amp up the gfx and sound and something seemed to get lost in translation.
it just doesn't have the polish of a blizzard game.

their game joining, match making, auto balance, stat tracking, ability to reconnect if dc, etc. is great.
everything else, wc3 dota is better at.

oh, hon buy system is better since you can hit B from anywhere, and their recipe might be more straightforward for noobs.

Is there a way to practice League of Legends single player before trying the game multiplayer?

I was an avid DOTA player for a long time. I have played Demi-god, LOL, and HON. HON is by far my favorite.

HON is basically just a DOTA copy, but everything has been improved. The match making system, the ability to reconnect to a game, EVEN IF YOU RESTART YOUR COMP YOU CAN STILL RECONNECT TO THE GAME!

All of the controls feel much more crisp and responsive. The spell effects are very pretty.

But like DOTA, HON is an extremely unforgiving game. Most people HATE playing with people who are new.

Hmm, I played DotA for years, but quit a year or two ago due to lack of time. I might have to give HoN a try.

This is why the community absolutely blows that surrounds DOTA and its decendants. These games have a learning curve. There are a lot of heroes all with different abilities and different ways to play them. Additionally, it takes a new player a few games before he starts to realize how to not get slaughtered in the early game. But no one is willing to remember the days when they were that player and cut them some slack.

Is there a way to practice League of Legends single player before trying the game multiplayer?

Start a practice game and set a password so no one can join. You can then put bots on either side.
