hey, at least through the course of the day you're probably getting what you need from the food groups.

this soup diet kicked the crap out of my co-worker. she literally went home sick before lunch because she was "feeling weak".

uh, hello... you haven't eaten carbs since last Wednesday.

I've been on Alli for about a month now, and haven't had a single problem, nothing remotely like some of the horror stories I've read. I'm ashamed to admit that I use it as a tool to scare me away from eating the wrong things and overeating, but the fear has been all the motivation I need - lol. I've lost 13 pounds over the past month, in addition to regular exercise.

IMO dieting is more about what not to eat than what to eat. I've effectively cut soda, doughnuts, ice cream, candy, and other high fat stuff out of my diet. I'm not above eating said foods, but I've recently started to work out 6 days a week, so any excess fat/sugar I ingest shouldn't last long.

As for what to eat:

Learn to cook fish. It cooks quickly (generally 15-30 minutes) goes down light and fills you up for a long time. It's also lean, and packed with healthy fats, protein, and other good stuff. Just don't fry it, as that negates most if not all of the health benefits. I'm a seafood fanatic, so this works perfectly for me. :) I eat fish (occasionally shrimp, maybe crab and/or lobster if I feel like splurging), 3-4 times a week.

Snacks: Baked potatoes in the microwave. A bowl of blueberries also works, but they're out of season for the time being, and thus expensive. I gorged on those during the summer though. Popcorn will fill you up, and is a good source of fiber (as are blueberries) but there's not much in the way of fuel in it. You won't get much of a boost.

Eat a small salad after dinner. The vegetables stimulate digestive enzymes and make you feel full for a longer period of time. I just eat the raw vegetables with no dressing (I've yet to find a dressing I actually like) but that's me.

I don't keep tabs on my calorie intake. I just make sure that the calories are quality.

I haven't eaten carbs in 3 weeks. I feel fine. I have to admit the first week was horrendous however.

I have lost 35lbs since November using that simple concept.....

If I exercise then I can eat more but for the most part I eat around 1500 calories a day to drop weight with little execise right now. I have about 10 more pounds to lose.

I am 6'2"
Started at 220lbs
Now at 185lbs
congrats at your wieght loss but 1500 seems a bit low.

You want to eat a minimum of 500 calories less than what it takes to maintain the target weight you want. My target weight of 170-180 would require about 2000-2200 a day to maintain that weight.

Hell I have gone days as long as 600 calories in a day. I supplement my diet with a quality multi-vitamin.

When i hit 190lbs, I actually went off the diet for a couple of weeks. I was able to stabilize my weight at 190lbs without much effort at all.

There is no right way to go about it really. I eat whatever the hell I want as long as it meets my calories. In a way it does limit things because I honestly refuse to waste 150 calories on a coke. But if I am craving a coke then I will drink it. It just gets subtracted from my allowed calories.

Everything in moderation. You really start doing that when you count calories. No way would I give up such yummy things as donuts.

Sweet. Good to know. Every place I went to (Whole Foods, Giant, Harris Teeter) was selling 4.4 oz for $4, Although they did have 24 oz for $4 in full season.

Holy shit was I was getting ripped off. :p

Oh I don't give them up. Like you said, moderation: I just eat them once/twice a week as opposed 4-7 times a week (what I used to do). Only exception is soda. I'll drink it when I'm out with friends, and I do like it, but I feel so much better after giving it up (I used to drink 2 cans daily) it more than compensates.

thing is she's not even a fatty, proof that i'm here to poke fun at fad diets and not fatties :p

Haha. Same here with the office I'm at. Seems nobody knows how to properly implement a new lifestyle change. Diets are just temporary and people don't realize this.

We got the following at my job:

Weight Watchers
Jenny Craig
Nutrisystem
Smaller portions diet of anything you eat
Subway diet

All these people make me laugh. I use to be one of these folks too. HAHA.

was that comic translated by engrish.com or something? that was annoying to read. but its right, exercise pwns food.
Neither one pwns the other. I trained for a marathon and put on fat. I have also done no cardio before, just some weights and lost fat. Professional endurance athletes all have to actively cut back food to trim up for their big races (be it Ironman or Tour de France) despite months of tons of exercise before hand. It always came down to calories. Exercise merely raises or lowers the number needed to maintain. The end result is still as above calories in < calories out.

It's either the high-fat cafeteria food or the boozing. I'm placing bets on the latter.

People like simple, it's the effort that they don't like. There was one diet pill that did work. But it was from Mexico and contained a tapeworm larvae. You can google the lasting side effects :)

More to the point, people like things done quickly.

"Dammit, what do you mean I can't drop those 95 pounds by next Tuesday? I have to squeeze into this wedding dress!"

 Uhh...have a little patience...and work ethic.
