Sadly, Geek Squad is a bit of a joke of tech jobs, but it is one of the few easy places for people with little experience to get some more experience so they can show it on an application elsewhere.

Congratulations on your ability to look down on some teenage kids who don't give a shit about their shitty jobs.

You're still expected to know about stuff. I worked at Best Buy's game/movie/music section because I like the store and I like movies and games. I know someone who works in a clothing store because she likes clothes. That's just the way it works. People who hate computers should not work as computer repair people.

It's not cool to hate. It's cool to hate on haters. Get with the program.

I used to work for Geek Squad and I'm actually pretty knowledgeable about PCs :p And if I don't know something, I'm not going to pretend to know about it. I'll tell you.

I don't understand all the hate for Geek Squad when there are truly a lot of people who work there who enjoy it and are good at it, and on the flip side, there are lots of dumb teens working there too.

Blame the hiring managers.

OP, admit it, you are just angry because you were fired from the Geek Squad because you weren't able to meet those high standards.

just because you like stuff doesn't mean you know dick about it.

i worked at best buy in the A/V section back in 2000 and the only reason was because i wanted a new TV and surround sound and wanted the discount. i didn't know jack shit about TV's or DVD players back then, and how to explain why component was better than standard AV cables. but i learned quickly on the job from others.

and on my 31st day i quit right after i bought all my shit with a huge discount (have to work 30 days to get the discount). worst job ever.

it's cool to hate on big corporations on ATOT ... where the F have you been?

(although there are A LOT of legitimate problems with best buy in general)

Hey... it looks like tubs there actually knows how to build his own computer. That makes him smarter than about 80% of Geeksquad employees :)

Don't think so.

My wife's netbook is faster than a number of laptops still in service where I work.

And if you are going to Geek Squad because you are wanting knowledgable associates you are doing it wrong. Cut them some slack though - as someone else said its one of the few places you can get hired with little/no experience and use it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things*

*Does not apply to all Geek Squad employees

Don't think so.

The average consumer, and the ave business, doesn't really update as often as the ave nerd.

Ave consumers and business will always outnumber nerds.

Point being--most of the laptops in service at any given moment are very likely underpowered in comparison to current netbooks

I think they are awesome and plan to use them for installing a new DDR5 pagefile when it's released.
