From my experience with mine, I'd say "yes". There are reports that the bass is a bit much, and I do find some truth to that. Even on the lowest setting, there's still a good bit of bass. If your soundcard drivers have a graphic equalizer app (nForce2 supports this), then you might have to tune the bass down if it annoys anyone else where you're living. Alternatively, you can turn it up so high that you can risk shaking objects off your desk. But it doesn't seem to get distortion. At least not at halfway (main volume knob, with bass at full), which was almost unbearably loud. I'd say that they're great speakers for the price.

thanks for the quick response :) ... let me get off topic a bit, how does this set do compared to creative's T7700? i understand that they are in two different categories but i just had to ask because i have an audigy 2 zs installed
and i just want to get some opinions on which route to take. should go with a 5.1 or 7.1 set?

I have the z-640's and they are excellent! Look around for a deal, I got mine for like 40 bucks AR a couple months ago. As for the bass problem, it really won't be bad for you since you have an audigy which has an EQ to change the base. Also I have listened to Creative speakers and they really aren't that great esp for the price. If you really really really want 7.1 I might say get it but there is pretty much nothing encoded in 7.1 so it will just be a replication over the channels.
