logorithm question

how in the hell do i figure out the log base given:
lg 3 = 1.584962501
lg 5 = 2.321928095

most calculators don't do different bases other than 10 and e

Anyway, rewrite your problem in exponential form.

So,
x^1.584962501 = 3

Then, take the log of both sides (or natural log)
use properties of logs to pull the exponent out
and you have
1.584962501 log x = log 3

log x = (log 3) divided by 1.584962501
10^ that answer is x.
