logo design contest!

my daughter needs a logo for her radio show.. she wants to sell merchandise through cafe press.. but mostly she wants to offer a tshirt prize for her current show contest, and she needs a logo first.

SO.. if you submit the winning logo, we will award you with a t-shirt too.

I know.. it's not money but she's a starving college student and this is the best she can do.. and surely some of you are bored enough you'd like to try making her a logo anyway.. I've seen you show off before.

she does a weekly show on her college radio station, playing broadway showtunes and film scores, mostly. the name of the show is "On With the Show". call letters WUSC, 90.5 fm Columbia. it's a quirky niche for college radio but it's working. the current website is on with the show , and you'll find details of the contest she's currently running there. you can even listen to the show if you want to, the station's website is currently down but there is a listening link on the place holder.. it's on sunday mornings from 9-noon for the next two weeks and then will be back in august (she's going to be away for july) 10-noon once school starts.

so.. all I have to offer for a prize is a t-shirt, and I'm not going to guarantee she'll pick one of your efforts, because we haven't seen them yet, but I do offer her show URL as a guarantee, you'll be able to see if your design is picked, so we can't escape with it for free.. if she picks your design then I'll pm you for mailing info and size preference and stuff. I would offer a paypal prize but I think I only have 3 dollars in my paypal account so you're better off with the shirt anyway.

go ahead and enter her 100 movie songs contest while you're at it if you want.. pick the top 10 and make the winning design and get 2 shirts! heh.

I didn't make these.. Just used google images fyi

I'll pass on the don't host it at advice, they're already trying to find a free/cheap easier domain name, because this one is impossible to announce on the air because noone knows how to SAY "~".. so maybe they'll find a better host as well.. this is just what was available and easy to use and until today, nobody was going there anyway. do you have a suggestion for a better place?

that second picture is really almost perfect, but.. odds are it's not royalty-free..

Tilde. Pronounced "till-DUH."

As for hosting, I'd suggest Namecheap plus HostPC. That's what I use and my hosting is $9.99/year for 300 MB storage and 8 gigabytes of transfers/month. And Namecheap is only $9/year for a domain name. Yeah, I know, starving students, etc., but anyone who needs a web site ought to be able to afford $19 a year.

It's called a tilde, and I'll host it for you for free if you register the domain name.

Take a picture of your daughter dressed and posed like the girl in the second link he posted, and I'm sure we can make something similar.

So she can't afford to pay someone for their time designing a logo but she will pay CafePress for their t-shirts which she is giving away for free on the show? Is she asking them for free t-shirts? Even if you are only going to pay out $50 or something for the logo at least it's not so insulting.

Why do people expect design to be given away for free but don't expect the same for products like t-shirts?

i tend to agree
i don't mind spending some free time doing logos for the personal site of ATOTers, but if the logo is for real, and for a show or business or anything that NEEDS to be professional - there needs to be payment


do you know how much it would cost to have a professional design a logo?
logo design runs 1000 to 10000
granted, there are more deliverables as well as a design process for the real deal
