Logitech Z-5500 static ?

I have had this set of speakers for quite a number of years now. And they have always sounded perfect. However, it seems now that they are getting
a bit of static.

The static seems to jump from speaker to speaker. It was in the left front speaker, and now it is in the center speaker. And even sometimes it will go away completely. I have reinstalled drivers, settings and anything else I could think of.

Anyone know what could be causing this ? I am using the onboard sound on a Sabertooth 99FX right now if that matters.

The caps could've gone bad. Make sure you're using the copper wire cables for the front speakers. You're using optical input, right?

I'm sure the Z5500s can only last but so long.

No, I am not using optical. If there were caps that went bad, wouldn't the sounds be static continuously ?

This is the first set of Z5500's. Not the wireless ones. If that makes a difference. Each satellite has its own wire going to the sub.

And to connect them to the onboard audio, only using the green/yellow/black wire.

This is the back of the sub.

And I am using the green/yellow/black wires from there to the onboard sound.

Oddly enough, I had this problem recently. I was building a new comp and just finished it. Hooked up to the new comp, I have no static.

Definitely test with a digital signal to rule out a crappy sound card. I haven't had a single onboard sound chip produce clean audio, but I have an old (2003-2004) USB sound card from M-audio that sounds perfect with the analog outputs.
