Logitech Z-5500 Speakers

Since these speakers are 5.1, as far as I know they need to be hooked up with the three mini outputs (front, rear and subwoofer) which I believe are green, black and orange respectively.

Are there are any other options for the output? I will need to occasionally hook the speakers up to a DJ mixer, which uses stereo outputs (white and red). Will this be possible? If so, will this require any sort of patch cable?

You need to use a miniplug to RCA cable, and use only one of the three mini outputs (the one that is used for the FRONT speakers). I'm not sure which color it is, but using the miniplug-to-RCA cable you can connect the speakers to a DJ mixer or any other device.

I am currently using it with a pair of 2.1 speakers. So you're saying that if I only plug in the Front mini plug output to an adapter like that, it will work fine? Will all the channels work? Ie. the rear speakers and subwoofer?

The Front mini plug only works for the front speakers, obviously. Does your DJ mixer support surround speakers? If you are using the RCA (Red and white plugs) then that is "stereo" only (2 front speakers) The DJ mixer might use a decoder and send the stereo signal to all speakers, but that depends on the capabilities of the mixer.

You can connect the DJ mixer to one of the inputs in the back (leaving the other two unused), using your adapter, then use the "effect" button to select the pro-logic music effect, which will send the audio to ALL the speakers.

EDIT: make sure the switch in the back is set to "stereo", not "6-channel"

So essentially then a Stereo audio signal will just output through all 5 speakers? If so, that might just work- I have no need for the surround sound when using the DJ mixer anyways.

So would another option be to get a cable with 3.5mm male plugs on both ends and just plug it into the Line-In or headphone port?

I think the Stereo X2 effect would be a better choice for getting audio to all speakers. Pro Logic Music is going to try and add surround sound effect where as the Stereo X2 simply adds the surround speakers as additional left and right channels.

If you're a Daft fan and haven't checked out Alive '07 - DO IT. The first track will melt your face off and the album doesn't stop until the end. The mixes and transitions are out of this world! Way good!
