Logitech Z-5500 speakers from ZipZoomFly?

Has anyone ordered these speakers from ZipZoomFly's website? Are they the new version that use actual speaker wire, or are they the older ones that use RCA connections hardwired into each speaker? I need to know because I will need to use longer cable to accomodate my setup. Thanks in advance.

I bought some a couple of months back - Not from ZZF as I live in the UK - But they came with regular speaker wire connections. I'm pretty sure they phased out the crappy RCA connectors a while back.

So then one would assume that the ones on ZZF would use the regular speaker wire then? I had purchased a set of the Klipsch pro media 5.1's for 199, but returned them after research led to find a large number of reports of quality problems with the amp dying on them in less than 6 months. Will I be happy with the Z-5500's from logitech?

I'm no audiophile but they seem pretty decent. No distortion, and because the satalites have an insane wattage you can pump them REALLY REALLY loud. 😛

One thing I have noticed, is that the sub is a little too powerful, and needs the volume adjused down (which can be done via the control panel).

I see no reason why they would come with RCA connectors as ZZF would have a high stock turn over and have the latest ones in.

- You will love them.

Call/e-mail ZZF and double check. If they end up coming with RCAs, then you will have to pay for return shipping. Save yourself the shipping cost, make the 5 minute phone call 😉

I decided to go with the Klipsch 5.1's in spite of the reported issues with the Bash amp. After reading as many reviews as I could find on both, the 5500's just didn't match up in the all-important area of sound quality. The combined mid-range/tweeter element just didn't cut it, and the sub was prone to over-powering the sats at medium to high volumes and sounds muddled compared to the PMU's, according to the reviews. Not one mentioned the dead-amp scenario, but that's to be understood considering the short time the PMU's would be in the reviewer's hands.

TBH, from hanging around in the Klipsch forums I expected the amp to blow the minute I plugged it it, but it didn't. 🙂 Being that I ran a set of Klipsch 4.1 (powered for the entire time I owned them) for 4-years, I decided to take a leap of faith and go with what the pro's said sounded better. I have my PMU's on a dedicated UPS, replaced the crap wire that came with them and I turn them off when not in use.

Back to this...I emailed ZZF and they were unable to tell me which version they had. Still no one has ordered from them? they have them on sale for 264 shipped.

Ordered them last week.

They are in fact regular speaker wire.
I had to purchase extra wire for my rear speakers also because the 25' they supply was not long enough for me.

Order them up! Awesome speakers!

Hope this helps.

Yes from ZZF.

Got the same deal your looking at, with the free shipping.
Got them in 2 days 🙂 (helps to live near CA where they ship from)

Interesting. This might be my birthday present to myself. I don't think these will be available at a better price for a while.

Error, does not compute. All speakers have distortion, and the 5500s have plenty of it.

Alright smart ass - I mean't when you increase the volume. It 'computes' just fine.

I hope you don't say that in the real world.

My sub overheated 🙁 Twice. This is Z5500's im talking about. I also think the sub needs to be adjusted down when at the highest volume (not boost mode), the default 5 bars makes it overheat. The ambient temp was pretty high though.

well now i am worried again. My room can get to be pretty warm in the summer. Should I avoid these? How high of an ambient temp are you talking? Does tuning the sub volume down help avoid the overheating issue or no?

Also, has anyone ordered these from TigerDirect? I get a rebate there. 🙂

This will happen with many subs with the power of the Z5500. My ambient temp was high because i have a bathroom attached to my bedroom and i left the door open whilest taking an hour and a bit ling shower.

Itll happen anyways but simply take longer without a high ambient temp, i think a good balance of sub volume and main volume is the key. The difference between maximum bars and 3-4 short of maximum isnt too noticeable, i.e. its still hella loud, and i havent had it overheat on the slightly lower setting.

Also, when it overheats it shuts itsself off 🙂 which is nice. I dunno if the effects make any difference to this, when mine overheated it was set to the default 6 channel thing, and not effect PLII Music, dunno if it wouldve made a difference, but i think the effects screw with the voltages and power of each speakers and maybe the sub, like the movie effect boosts the center speaker for example.

Fan idea is very convenient for me actually... it just clicked, my parents bought me a desk fan yesterday.... pretty randomly actually. Good thing they did.

So I was about to order them, but can now get the same ones at Tigerdirect for 10 bucks cheaper. Not to mention I get a rebate at tiger direct. I would assume that tiger direct also carries the ones with the speaker wire connections?
