Logitech Z-5500 Digital Speaker System
Price: $372.95
sub 25% off coupon (-$93.24)
Total: $279.71 + free shipping + no tax for me in Arizona

You can get the 25% off PC Accessories, Notebook Accessories, or Power coupon by playing that stupid Dell Elf game. I think there are a few for sale on eBay, a few more floating around on here, and I have 3 of them, but will give 2 away for someone who is ready to buy.

Newegg has these for $279+$20 shipping

Someone mentioned to me earlier that he got this for $223 using a % off coupon + a stackable coupon.

Still, for $279, this isn't that bad of a deal if you are set on getting some good speakers.

great deal....wish i had waited a month...i paid 296 from some joe-blow website...not a big diff between this price and that one but it woulda still saved me some money...nice find 🙂
if anyone can get these for 223 that would be a really really amazing deal.

BY FAR....the z-5500 are SO much better...having owned both i can personally tell you....opt for these...spend the extra money...you will NOT regret it...the subwoofer is phenominal...the speakers are top notch...everything about this is amazing...you cant go wrong w/ these....buy em if you have the cash...

Can i use these speakers for my home entertainment? Does it have all the inputs? If i want to watch tv using these speakers or play xbox using these would i be able to do it? do i need to buy additional cables ?

btw i've read some reviews saying there is a hiss sound. Is it that obvious? And didn't this happen to 680's too? but they fixed it in later batches, right? but the 5500's hiss isn't fixed yet?

BTW same deal from Newegg w/o the coupon code.
- When I looked at new egg it cost around $300, where do you see it for the same price?

I have been wondering this too for awhile. Keep an eye on this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

thanks for the heads up, my klipsch 5.1s just died, been waiting for another good deal on a set of these....

I've had it with klipsch, these are the 3rd set of klipsch speakers I had go bad...
I had v2.400s that went bad twice, and they ended up forcing me to shell out $20 bucks for a final fix on those. Now they want $60+ to fix my 5.1s...

I still gotta figure out if I can afford this, sure hope I can. using headphones sucks...

edit: well I got a 25% off coupon, but this deal is more then newegg thanks to tax. plus you still have to pay for shipping up front... I think I'll wait for amazon to put it on sale again or zipzoomfly to do free 2nd day air

Shipping & tax were free for me!

Mavtek
- This would be interesting to find out. Can anyone comment on this?

well mavtek, for one thing that system's subwoofer only has a 6-1/4" woofer that's 140 watts. I'm betting this is peak power too, as that receiver looks really cheap and I doubt a single speaker of that size could handle that RMS... the sub on these logitechs is 10" at 188 watts RMS, so right off the bat these computer speakers have more power then that whole HTIB...

I am still wondering how people that have reviewed the unit says that there is a lot of input on the system and that they could attach like 6 components into the speakers. The thing is i don't see any inputs for other components other than for the speakers on the back of the sub-woofer.

The breakout box on the 5500's has four inputs on it that you can switch between with the wireless remote. It has Optical, Coax, and I think two stereo. The breakout box also has built-in decoding for Dolby Digital, DTS, and 96/24, so it's really like a mini-reciever.

Why is this system better than one of those cheap HTIB's? One word... Power. The 5500's have 500w RMS with a 10" subwoofer. You won't find an HTIB system that even approaches those two numbers for less than $500. A little HTIB system may be passable, but the 5500's will knock your socks off.

Don't be turned off by the Logitech brand name. I was the same way at first. I thought, "Logitech speakers? Don't they make mice?" Well trust me, Logitech now makes some of the highest quality speaker systems in the world. If you buy the 5500's you will not be disappointed.

hmm im so tempted to upgrade.. but i just bought myself z560 refurbs. As of now i only use 2 out of the 4 speakers but they sound so goood. I can't imagine wat 5500 would sound like.

Thanks Falc. I wanted to know if I can hook up my stereo/tv to this system. I will take some pictures of the options on the back (where the jacks are) and see if I can get some advice about if I can use the speakers with this.

Just got these from mwave for $287 after tax since I picked it up from their warehouse! These speakers are very nice. It's like youre in a damn movie theatre the way these speakers sound through DTS digital! The dialogue is crisp, clear with no muffled bass to drown it out... and when those explosions come up, you FEEL the explosion!! The bass hits very clean and doesnt rumble. Get these, they are so versitile.. Can hook up your MP3 player to it, XBOX, DVD player, easily switch between analog and digital outputs! It plays back 16-bit/44khz audio streams into 24-bit/96khz! Dolby Prologic II decoders for stereo audio streams make them sound so much better!

Im in the same situation as you, I barely bought some z-680s but I like the new control pod design for the z-5500. I wonder if my credit card can stand another purchase 😛

i can vouch for these things, they rock, and they rock the socks off of my friend's z680 (bought on my recomendation in may) this is a good deal, go for it, gonna convince my dad to get another set for the big screen

The only thing that concerns me with these vs. the 680s (which I have 2 sets of, one for pc and one for tv) is the speaker connections. The 680s use normal speaker wire, while these look like they use some sort of RCA cabling. I haven't really seen these in action or know what the deal is with the speaker wires. I'd be interested to know how easy it is to change up the cables in case you need to space them further apart. Though for or $50-60 more, these still might be a better bargain.

EDIT: Though the 680s at THIS price might be well worth it.
