Logitech Z-540 left speaker randomly out.

My Logitech Z-540 left speaker randomly goes out sometimes. I've searched around the internet and found other people with similar problems but not an answer.

It corrects itself if I remove the left speaker RCA from the subwoofer and put it back in. However this is annoying.

Does anyone know how I could possibly figure out what the problem is. I suspect its in the sub somewhere. I remember reading someone taking their sub apart and not finding anything wrong with the soldered connections. Speaker is not broken as replacing the back speakers into the front left produces the same problem.

A good technical repair forums? I don't want to replace these speakers as they work fine, just that they are broke now. Standard disposable mass market junk. Uhg. Of course out of warranty. Possibly a fet of some kind I could replace or search for?

I bet it is a bad/cold solder joint inside the sub, specifically in the RCA connection. You may not be able to see it and identify it by looking at it, if you really want to fix it then rip it apart bust out the multi meter and find out exactly where you are loosing that RCA connection and re solder it. Really should not be that hard, im going to assume that you have tried a differnt RCA cable to rule that out?

I've tried an entirely new speaker with new RCA cable yes. I've also used speaker wire and frankensteined my own speaker with crimped on RCA, and that cut out too. So it must be in the sub like you say.

Thanks for the input. I'll try find a cold solder joint. I'd guess I'd be tracing the left speaker terminal. See if I can find anything. I could wait till it goes out, power off, and then see where I find infinite resistance? Resolder that. I'll give it a try!

you may not even need to wait till it goes out, ill bet its making a bad connection even when it works, should be able to tell the differnce in resistance compared to the other working channels.

Any suggestions to get past this glue?

I've tried needle nose pliers, flat head screwdriver, acetone, isopropyl alcohol, and a bag full of ice. All are pretty damn futile. I need to free these cables to be able to pull out the control board on the other side. Why do manufacturers have to make it so hard to get in?

I've taken little chunks of pulled glue and attempted to dissolve in acetone and isoproply with no visible effects from either.

damn i was going to suggest acetone, thats some killer glue.

It looks like hot glue though, try heating it up till its soft again then removing the part. hair dryer or better yet heatgun should work fine.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll give it a try. However, I think I might just sink these ones and try again! The AGE of landfill electronics. That or try find a cheap decent amp with volume control and hook up the still perfectly fine speakers to it. Could you recommend me a 2.0 system that is about the same quality as these? Personally these speakers worked just fine for me! I don't use BASS ever as I don't find it attractive nor subtle (neighbors) so I have little need for a subwoofer.

Personally im running a Pair Of Dayton BR-1 Speakers from parts express, they murder anything from logitec and creative. And you know they will work cause you have to put them together yourself, no cold solder joints unless you screw it up but they are easy to assemble. And the cabinets are pre assembled you just needs to solder together the crossover and install the drivers. This system will beat any sub $300 set of bookshelf speakers i have come across.

Can be had on sale for $100 with regular price of $159. A T amp($50 or less) will power them fine if you are not a base head so for under $200 its a great choice. I want some bass output from them so im running mine of a real class AB amp at 50W channel and they can crank out some killer base for only 6.5" mid drivers, very well ported cabinet design.

EDIT: just noticed you said you might re use the speakers without the sub, the 44$ 15W channel T amp from parts express would work well for that, just whatever you do dont buy the 50W channel $100 T amp from them.

LOL. Lame Logitech poop/disposable consumer electronics.

So the landfill got some nice caps/siliconboard/wire and wood, and I got another disposable Genius 2.1 setup for 45$, as recommended by Custom PC. I'm thoroughly impressed with these new disposables. I'd recommend them.
