Logitech Z-5300 or Altec Lansing MX5021?

I'm getting a new set of speakers for my pc (gaming, mp3s and DVDs). I have narrowed my choices down to two, the Logitech z-5300e, and the Altec Lansing MX5021. They are very different systems (the Logitech system is 5.1 while the Altec Lansings are 2.1) and have very different power ratings (the Altec Lansings are only 90Watts RMS, the Logitech 5300s are 280Watts RMS). It seems like a very simple decision to get the Logitech speakers, since both systems are about the same price, but what makes me unsure are the very good reviews the MX5021 get. Are these systems at all comparable? Could the Altec Lansing speakers be of such better quality that they out perform the Logitechs with twice the speakers and three times the power?

You really can't compare them, the Altec's compare to the Logitech z-2200's, or maybe the z3's

the z-5300's are hella nice, and I will prolly buy them here in the next couple days 😛

I love my logitch's Z-5300. All logitechs have excellant uniformity wheras altec emphasizes loudness by increasing bass and treble at the expense of mids. The z-5300's interestingly can get to VERY low volumes with no distortion and are still very crisp. Just get the z-5300's if you have room for 5.1 and the bass speaker. More on the budget side, the x-530s from logitech are also a good choice at that price range.

$100 :Q, youve got to be kiding me! I'm looking at over $150 shipped. I guess I'll go with the 5300s. I wish reviewers would mention that the system they are reviewing is no match for other systems in the same price range. I just assumed that since it got such high reviews it must be of similar value to the other speakers of the same price.

yeah, logitech usually pack very good quiality in with the price of thier speakers, don't know how they do it though 😛

Some people say that their bass sounds muddy, etc. etc. but I dont wanna go drop 450$ for some klipsch, thanks...

I still have to get a sound card though, I'm pretty much decided on an Audigy 2 ZS Because I game a lot, but to anyone who does'nt game, I say get a chaintech 7.1 as it is only 27$ shipped at newegg and is a teeny bit better than an audigy for music.

I was looking at the Audigy 2 value, is it a good card for the price ($60 from Newegg)? I do game some but music and DVDs are my main concern. Or would I be better off getting the Audigy Live! or chaintech cards? One of the reasons I was going to get the Audigy 2 Value card is that it is THX certified, as are the speakers I am going to get. Does that really make a difference?

get the chaintech 7.1 as it has better music and dvd quality than the ZS but it is much cheaper. Definitely do not get Live! as they are much worse. I think the Audigy Value is based on hardware older than the ZS, but even if it was'nt the chaintech would be a better choice.

One of the reasons is the Audigy cards have to resample music that is played to 48khz from 44.1 and Chaintech cards do not.

Keep in mind that Audigy 2 zs will sound much better in gaming and run faster.
