I'm never buying another Klipsch product after my ProMedia 2.1s died out of warranty. One of the two channels just stopped working. And this is a very common problem. Klipsch products simply aren't reliable.
No speaker system specifically designed for use with computers can ever really be called high-end, but within the spectrum of speakers designed for use with computers, there is certainly a range of prices and qualities.
I use to own a set of the Klipsch Pro-Media 5.1 speakers. I got rid of them as they were too bright and caused fatigue.
My GF has the Logitech Z-2300s. They are decent, especially for the price. I do like the rolled-off bass they seem to have. Very pleasing. The satellites are nothing special.
I personally use a 8-year-old Boston Acoustics BA7800 setup. It is still going strong and is much better thanthe Klipsch and Logitech systems but still has plenty of room for improvement.
Edit: I don't think the OP is spam. It's a damned thorough review by a loyal audiophile who takes it seriously. Bravo.
used receiver w/ digital inputs: $50
Polk Monitor 40s: $100 /pr
For $150 the above will destroy any self-powered PC speaker setup. Period. Add a Polk Audio PSW10 sub for $100 if you want to rattle the windows.
Logitech = Bose for geeks

Yeah, but at a fifth of the price.
I have a pair of Monitor40's and they have no low end to speak of.
Bookshelf's have this limitation, they cannot go as low down the frequency range as a 2.1 with a dedicated subwoofer can.
But when I get around to pairing my HDTV and HTPC with a set of speakers, I'm going to go the speakers+receiver route - much better sound out of bookshelf speakers.
So you're not using any speakers with your HDTV & HTPC now? Moving through the history of film chronologically, and still in the silent era?
No, if you want a high end 2.1 sound system you hook the digital out from your PC into a nice DAC and get a nice set of studio monitors from a reputable company such as Paradigm, B&W, Definitive Technology, etc. Calling a set of 2.1 speakers from Logitech "high end" is laughable to say the least. Logitech does make some solid products and their speakers work pretty well for gaming and non high fidelity tasks. But if you really want to use your PC for high end listening then you aren't going to be using Logitechs.
Absolutely
I have the TV speakers to work with at the moment. I'll be getting external speakers sometime later this year.
Oh man, we've got the guy using his TV's built in speakers on here criticizing other people's speaker choices.
This has to be the most in-depth review I've read for a speaker system. Great job, RishiGuru. (Y) I think you'll be pleased to know that your review made it to the front page: http://www.neowin.net/news/neowin-member-reviews-logitech-z-2300-mega-review
Guys this is no personal advertisement, just wanted all of you to know that my review of Logitech Z-2300 was considered good enough for the front page of neowin.net.

They are also asking me, if I am professionally interested to do this kind of reviews. I am yet to think about an answer.
Good job...don't let our haters get you down.
