I think it basically comes down to if you want surround sound or not.

If you're doing a lot of gaming/movies with speakers, you're probably going to want to do a 5.1 set.
For music and other 2-channel sources, go with a 2.1 set.

Also, I'd only get a 5.1 set if you can do a decent job setting them up so they're not all in front of you like some people do.

most people don't even spend time setting up. they just put 2 behind them and call it 5.1. It takes time to set them up. Mount them in the proper spots and then coordinate the delay and stuff in the rear channels, but most people are nub...

that's why I get my 2.1s and I spent time on my own home stereo because I know that I can set them up well and in a good surround fashion.

Anyways, gotta love these speakers. They were pretty good when I plugged them into my laptop, but I wasn't blown away. When I plugged them into my desktop (even though I only have integrated karajan audio by dfi), I was like WHOAH, this is some good shizzle. I wish I had my SB Live to test it out on...

Any success signing up for the card? I really want to get these for $30, but I keep getting an error message: ""We encountered an error while processing your request. We were unable to automatically add your promotional certificate to your account at this time.""

Do I jump on this... ahhhh I'm just nervous about lack of mid-range. But nothing could be worse than the speakers I have now (POS Jensen).

While you think about it, fix your rig link ;)

Just got these and honestly, I'm not satisfied at all. The sound is merely ok, and it only goes downhill. The sub is VERY weak, comparable to my 40 watt logitech z340's... Literally, I don't know how you guys are stating that these sub's will "shake" your windows/walls. I think you guys better start watching the news for those seismic activities around your house... xP

But what the hell was I thinking... these speakers for 60$. Flame suit - on.

LMAO!

I just got these myself and with the sub setting on half, and the volume at 50%, listening to some trance, the sub pounds as hard as my Z-680's...

Something is up with your setup...are you using integrated sound? Is your bass level cranked back on your audio applications?

Anyway...thanks OP...set them up on my downstairs system and they do very well!

One word of advice to people that have problems with the sound to the satellites....if you are using crappy onboard audio, the speakers will reflect that. When I first connected them to the onboard sound of my motherboard..they sounded good, but I could hear the lack of midrange. I threw in one of those Chaintech cards and used the HQ stereo out, and it was night and day...

Update: My subwoofer was bad. Blew out 10 min. after using it... Sigh... (Btw, when it was working, it was connected to a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz SC.

Sorry to hear that. Thanks for coming back and updating us though! the sub on the 2300's may be many things, but weak isn't one of them IMO.

Also, nice card, you should get some awesome sound out of your new replacements.

Is Logitech just going to send you a new set, or do you need to send them back to Amazon?

Got a bad sub in mine too...DOA, no bass at all...pretty ridiculous, such a pain sending stuff back, although Amazon pays return shipping

I'm getting replacements from Amazon.com. Had to print out a UPS shipping label, and then pay for shipping, which they will reimburse later.

The weird thing is that when I went to CC to test the speakers out while mine were being shipped, I noticed that their sub didn't hit very "hard" either. Is this bass on this system supposed to be comparable with the Klipsch 2.1's?

I think once you get your replacements you'll be impressed. I've got a dual Klipsch 8.2 setup upstairs (4.1 x 2), and I used to have the 2.1 PM's, and these are definately more powerful, and have a much stronger sub than the 2.1 Klipsch's. The Klipsch has a minor edge in highs due to their seperate tweeter...but I often found the highs on the PM's to be a bit overwhelming without adjustment.

Also, I can't stress enough to use these with a good sound card. I'm still in awe at the difference now that I'm running them off the high sample rate output on the Chaintech Envy24 card versus the onboard Realtek sound on my IS7 board. Not only is it much clearer, but much louder. I can't really get passed halfway on the volume without moving to the other side of the room or I hurt my ears. The sub still has decent bass with the bass level at minimum. I really think for a awesome music setup, the Chaintech card and the 2300's make a excellent setup for the money. Just make sure to use the "Hi Sample Rate" 2.1 setting...

:)

Yes, this is exactly what I am using.

Music player = winamp (equilizers turned off), DSP plug-in = Sound Solution (it does wonders for these speakers, rather dramatic).

OK, here is a stupid question from a noob. I've received the speakers and now I'm ready to send in the mail in rebate.
The rebate says to send rebate form, UPC, and a copy of the receipt (with product circled).

What is acceptable as the receipt? I have the packing slip from the box it was shipped in, a copy of the invoice from Amazon's site, or a copy of the email confirmation for the purchase?

Sorry for the stupid question, this is my first online purchase involving a rebate.
