i haven't seen a lot of pro reviews, but everyone that has them seems to like them. A lot of people say they are better than their 5.1 systems, especially if you don't have the space (or don't want to run the wires) to properly position your 5.1

I got them about a month ago, and you're not going to find something better for $60. You can crank these things high, so they are especially good for gaming. I love playing COD2 with these things high so you can feel the gunfire and explosions. They are actually not to bad for movies either.

The sub is very good, and can put out a ton of bass. But like most sat/sub combos they are a bit thin on the mid range, but you'll only notice this if you are really picky.

Thanks OP!! Just what I was looking for. I'm really tempted to get these to replace an old Altec 2.1 system which has an incredibly annoying hum when they're on with no input. Lots of great user reviews on this system, but I did notice a few mention some hum when there's no input, which is exactly what I'm try to get away from! Anyone have any experience with this?

Great set of 2.1 speakers. For $60 they can't be beat.

Tip for anyone who uses winamp and these speakers: try Sound Solution 1.31b. Use the "Bright and Dense" setting. I guarantee a richer sound.

Have been using my Altec Lansing ACS48's (I think that's the model #) for like 6-7 years now I think. They still sound mostly fine to me, but this seems like a really good deal. And it's nice to have the desktop control thing, and the headphone plug.

Anyway, thanks OP! =)

Wow. Mine just came in and I love them. Sound quality is superb. Pair this with the $25 chaintech audio card and you'll have an awesome sounding package. Highly recommended.

Have had mine for 3 days now, and WOW..... these things are LOUD! =) The bass is super-hefty. Almost too loud for my tastes, only because with the dial on the control-unit turned to as low as it possibly can go, and my bass settings @ 50% in my sound card drivers, it's still plenty loud enough to send significant vibrations into the adjacent rooms and keep people awake. Which I realize is probably a good thing for many prospective buyers =)

But with that said, these still are an amazingly kickass deal, specially for $60 AR. Listening to a techno song right now (not my typical music of choice, but wanna give these things a workout), and these things just thump and sound great, and they volume is "maybe" at 1/3, probably closer to 1/4 of max. Highly Recommended.

I was thinking about getting my girlfriend speakers for Christmas, as she has a laptop with sh!tty speakers. However, after reading some of the Amazon reviews, it sounds like these don't like to be paired with onboard audio? Should I go for these or look for something else? Thanks in advance.

The better your speakers get, the more that shortcomings of other areas are going to show up. Ideally you'd have a nice soundcard to output to these, but if you have integrated to work with, then I guess that's what you're stuck with until you she gets an external soundcard or a PCMCIA card etc.

I don't think this model in particular is any worse off with integrated than the competators.

If she likes music with a lot of bass, these are a great deal at $60.

I want these so badly. I have no desire to try and rig a 5.1 setup in my office. I think my in-laws will be getting these for me for Christmas! :D
