Best value/budget 5.1 set you'll ever find, IMO. They're a big improvement over the Z-640's (which I used to have)...I don't see myself wanting to upgrade from these for a long time.
 
quick question. i am in a dorm room and dont have space for 5 speakers. is it possible for me to just use 2 speakers and the woofer and run a 2.1 setup? i'd like to run 5.1 eventually when i move back home for the summer and thus was thinking about getting these things since they're priced so nicely.

yes it is, they also run 4.1, i have these speakers, they are amazing for the price

 
Definitely a good deal. I have these set up for my main rig and think they're great for the price. Not the highest quality out there but for $40 you can't beat it.

It takes three plugs. If you only have 3 audio jacks (mic, line in, line out), most 7-8 channel onboard audio solutions allow this to work. I'd double check just to be safe, though.

This is tasty. Any deals on the 5300's though ? Im trying to hold off buying these if I could get a deal or wait for a deal on for some 5300's

Then again for $40 bucks for surround. Im just gonna get these, hehe.

5300s are still hovering around 100-120 everyplace i've checked...i bought them 2 years ago for $140...

buy.com is butt slow sometimes. Usually 3 to 4 days go to warehouse and then shipping.

 
Ordered it Thursday, and got it Tuesday as well. Buy.com has always been awesome for me, and this price is practically a steal. So far I like them.
