Logitech Setpoint

Noticed a lot more lag in my MX518 mouse using Setpoint in Vista 64.
Wondering if it is really necessary to have this installed?

No it is not. Only if you want to be able to fully customize all settings
and be able to use all the special buttons on the mouse. Also needed
if you want to make any specific buttons on the mouse do an action of
your choice as opposed to the factory defaults.

If you are not already using it try the newest setpoint 4.0 from the Logitech site, it has been working much better for me than the older versions. FWIW I am on XP SP2

I just installed SetPoint 3.30 last week. The app process uses 20MB memory!

For a Cordless Desktop MX 5000, is it worth rolling the dice on SetPoint 4.0?

from what I have read at the logitech forums I would say Yes is is worth the upgrade!! It only takes a few minutes as I recall 😀

I upgraded to 4.0 last week in an attempt to repair an intermittent stuttering problem. It may have made a little difference.
As Bruce says, if you want the extended functions to work, it needs installed.

after reading your post on setpoint 4.0 ,I tried again to move up from 2.3
XP,7900gtx xxx, MX518,e6700,p5w dh, it CRASHED may BF 2142 just as setpoint 3. did
bf2142 would kick me from the server, every 2 to 10 min.system had no hicups any time before, set point 4
Had to reload bf2142 & patch, system restore plus going back to setpoint 2.3
still was not stable until I reloaded a new network driver, the other one was only a month old, needless to say I'll stick with 2.3 for awhile longer, 5 hours down the drian!!!
I just wanted to share this in case others have problems, set the new setpoints.

the older versions of setpoint were problematic. from what i read, v4 really improved a lot of issues. you don't have to have it, but it is neccesary to enable all the extra buttons on your logitech mouse/keyboard apart from standard ones. i have it installed and it is taking up a mere 4MB of ram. this isn't 1995. i can spare that.

i don't use it for my g7 mouse. i don't use the sensitity change much since i use my razer to game and for desktop use, its useless. default ftw

same goes for the G5? just got mine and haven't installed the software yet, too.

You'll get basic mouse support, but you won't be able to use the buttons that change the resolution of the mouse. That may not be a big deal fo you though. I, however, use that feature in a few games. Especially games like BF2 where Lowering and raising the Resolution is useful when going from rifle to tank.

My G5 resolution buttons work just fine without the SetPoint.

Version 4.0 caused huge problems on my computers with NVidia and VIA chipsets. The previous revisions were problematic, too.

To a point, but if I remember right, you don't get the middle stops on the selection. Just three, nor do you get the ability to set what each step does.
