IS this normal?

I have a Logitech Harmony remote. A $70 model.

The batteries are nearly dead according to the screen so I replaced them with some rechareables. This took all of 5 seconds. With new batteries in, the remote is behavign as though it is new. It forgot all my settings.

And to make matters worse, I think the remote might be dead. I have to look at it when I get home.

Thoughts?

Being a harmony, have you fired up the pc you configured it with and pushed your config?

And no, that's not normal.

I'll have to look into this problem more tonight.

I don't know why it would be the case, but is it OK to use rechargeable batteries?

All this technoglocal evolution and I can not even get a remote to work properly. /hate technology

Not sure how old your Harmony is, but mine came with eneloops and a USB charger. Works just fine.

Same here. I have an older Harmony 6xx model.

AFAIK, they all come with rechargable.

Many, but not all, do. The 650 is an example that comes with 2 AA batteries: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmo.../dp/B004OVECU0

I've used rechargeable batteries in mine with no problems. Just make sure you use pre-charge/ready-to-use batteries, or you'll be charging them very often. I think mine last about 6 months on one charge.

RESOLVED

Old batteries dead.

Rechargeable batteries with full charge not good enough.

2 new Duracels and problem resolved.

I didn't loose any settings on the remote.

Good! I'm wondering if your rechargeable batteries are just poor or old. I bet if you stuck some eneloops in there, it would work just fine.

The erchargeables are old. Never had an issue with a device when fully charged before. They don't last as long as new rechargeables anymore though.

That makes sense. Rechargeables degrade over time. Often you can get more life out of them by doing a discharge cycle on a batter charger like the BC-700: http://www.amazon.com/La-Crosse-Tech.../dp/B000RSOV50

I ordered that charger and a bunch of pre-charged batteries a few years ago. I try to round up all my batteries once a year to run them through a discharge cycle. I threw away all my non-pre-charged batteries, because it was so frustrating when I'd fully charge them and then go to use them 4 days later, and they wouldn't be enough to power the device.

Anyways, I'm glad the fix was $2 in batteries rather than another $70 remote :)
