I found this today while I was at my local Office Depot:

Logitech Quick Cam Home
Model QCAM961105-1200
SKU 425-703
UPC 097855004758
300k pixel high resolution camcorder ccd sensor
video capture 320x240 @ 25fps
Still image capture 640x480
Audio capture up to 22khz 8 bit samples.

Not bad for $19.88

Hows the quality on these things? Id really like to get the 3com homeconnect which is the cream of the crop so to say but am weary of spending 100+ dollars on something most people say they use maybe once since they have gotten it. (most people who i know that have web cams say they are a neat toy but barely use it). Would this be a good cam to start off with?

If you plan on taking alot of pictures, pass on this as webcams are pretty lousy at taking good pictures. But if you plan on using video conferencing it's decent.

have had this camera for about a year. it is an absolutely fantastic deal for $20. when i bought mine from staples they were selling for $100 w/a rebate. i promise you, this will be the best $20 you have ever spent on a computer camera!

These things only function when plugged into the USB port and usually sit on top of your monitor or computer case if it's on your desk. It's sorta portable... as far as the usb cable goes anyway. ;)

This is a webcam that plugs in the USB port.
Because it is CCD, it's picture quality in terms of low light/ low noise and color reproduction is excellent.
Maybe as good as the similar Intel or 3com products.
For $20 it is a great deal.
Great find, thanks

19.88 sounds like a closeout price to me...or a clearance item, same thing.. hmmm hope theres still some around in my area... please report back to the thread if you guys find any of these in your area and whether this is a closeout/clearance item or not.. thanks!

I forgot to mention that it was USB. As far as the quality goes, it is awesome. I was a little leary at first because it is only 25 frames per second, where most cameras are 30 frames per second. Trust me, this camera has excellent video quality, far more superior than any $20 cam out there. It blows the doors off of my Ezonics EZcam that I got for free. I'm not much of a video buff, but I can't find a thing wrong with it. I did notice however that after I updated the drivers for it, it seemed to look much clearer. Best $20 bucks i've ever spent on a web cam.

I do not see a QuickCam Home at Logitechs web page. I have a Quick Cam color that I love but does not have Win2K drivers.

Wik,

I thought it was win2k compatible, but I am not for sure. I have been trying to go to Logitechs web site, but it seems to be down temporarily. I will post anymore specs or updates that I find here.

Well my OD here in Waterloo did not have any cheaper cams. The only Logitech one was the Quick Cam Web and it was like $79.99. Everything is 10% off though in the store because they are shutting it down. So the search continues for me.

I did see that the Quick Cam Home and the Express both work in Win2K but none to be found here.

I got the QuickCam VC from Office Depot about a year and a half ago when they had that sale... $30 and it works great. I have Webcam32 running so I can have a live stream of me broadcasted on the web ;) It works well for this kinda stuff, but not taking pictures. Video streaming and videoconferencing work fine though.

The manager at OD in NYC (B'way and 4th, by Tower) had no knowledge of this deal.
He said I needed an ad or something for him to honor it. He suggested that maybe it was an OfficeMax deal. The Logitech cameras were full price.

I don't think it's available in my area either. It lists the item, but no price or picture. The only one listed on the OD page here is the Express one.
